In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So six weeks ago my wife and I were offered a Columbian Red tail for very cheap, we did our research, and bam we brought her home, a week later I was talking to a friend and he had 3 corns he wanted to get rid of, so we brought an anery-snow stripe-albino female, a bloodred-Opal-stripe male, and a blizzard female corn home, just this morning I went to pick up a ball and a yellow anaconda. The conda was shocking. he has a better temperment than the Columbian!!!!The ball had some interesting marks, in a stripe straight down his back, but the people that had him swore he was normal. Oh well good deals for me. thanks for the forum

Scott, welcome!!!!!
Slow down a little and enjoy what you have. A lot of new snake owners buy a bunch of snakes and then wake up one morning and realize there is too much work and expense involved in keeping them, especially the larger boids and pythons.
I'm not saying this is going to happen to you, but it happens to some.
We're glad to have you here, welcome!

WELCOME SCOTT!! just like LUCILLE sead slow down till you feel things out with the herps you have. good luck

Welcome to the sickness! Thats how it starts, so hold on and enjoy the ride.

I highly recommend that you expand your knowledge before you expand your collection.

Definitely agree. If you just got your first animal, you really need to take things slow and expand your knowledge on the species you do already have. Theres quite a bit that you may not realize you still need to know.

Do you know the proper treatment for RI? Scale Rot? Mouth Rot? How about Bites and other Health issues? Non Feeding and how to properly care for an animal in that kind of situation? Do you have a HERP vet on call if you have an emergency? or need help with a specific issue? Its not just how to care for these animals with an enclosed environment that you need to know, its the health and behavioral issues and general upkeep ( Not Housing/Feeding) that you really gotta get down.

Another example, Quarantine. Are all of these animals housed separately? Are they being watched for feeding/defication issues? Are they being held in a quarantine room, where the snakes have no contact with the others? ( That means you not handling one, then handling all the others?, and you not using tools used on one animal, then using those same tools on another)

Lots more things. Take it slow. Do the research and keep the animals you have for a good period of time before you get more. :) You really dont want your new hobby to turn into WORK. and you dont want to lose everything due to something you didnt know about.

Otherwise, WELCOME to the hobby, and Fauna. Enjoy, and learn!!! ( I do EVERY DAY!) :) We all start somewhere!

This isn't my first rodeo with herps, I had 6 snakes when I got married, and then the spousial unit decided that we shouldn't have snakes when our child was born, she won that argument and the snakes went bye bye. This is our 1 time with Columbians and the Yellow anaconda, but so far so good. I have made quick friends with a local herp store owner that is absolutly wonderful for answering questions no matter how small or insignificant.

But thank you for your advice. I do appreciate anything and everything I can learn, no matter how small.
