The clinical term is heterochromia iridis, meaning that one iris is a different color from the other, in this case black & blue. This is definitely genetic being the 3rd we’ve produced over 2 years, and very cool to see in person. I did a double take last year when the first one hatched. The pattern of inheritance is typically dominant, but not finite in this species, but possibly sex-linked as well.
On top of how rare he already is, he’s also 66% possible het albino, so if it proves out, he’s capable of producing Pearls and Blizzards (pic 2 and 3), but even if he’s paired with a normal, he can’t produce anything less than 100% hypos.
I can personally attest that there has been NO in-line breeding to produce these animals. One grandfather is a true Hypo and the other grandfather was from the older (but rarer) Platinum bloodline of hypos. There wasn’t a single birth defect in the clutch, so you can have faith in the genetic strength and health of your purchase.
He readily takes F/T weaned rats and growing quickly.
