    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Black corn snake?

I went to my local pet store, and they had a CB black corn snake for $25. The scales were smooth and it was all black. Didn't get a chance to look at its belly though. Do black corns really exist?
 
Maybe they were a fad? lol. Seriously, back in the early 90s, every cornsnake breeder I knew personally had them, and they were on many tables at the shows I attended. I've had nothing to do with corns since I sold mine back in '94('93?), so I couldn't say anything about how they were produced...or where they went. I'd be kind of surprised to find that everybody was selling black rats as black corns, though (I'm pretty sure some people had both on their tables, but it was a long time ago). FWIW, I got mine from the Bells
 
I've never heard of, much less seen, a pure black corn snake. Many people refer to the Anerythristic corn as a "Black Albino", but they are still very strongly patterned with quite a lot of contrast between the dark (sometimes black) blotches and the normally gray ground color.

yah only pure black ones i've seen are racers (endangered/state snake and get very big), and black rat snakes, but no actual black corn snake, only reason i know is because i recently asked this same question to several breeders and to date there is no way... can make pure white :D but not pure black, dont ask me why seems logical to me, maybe if they did a hybrid like the jungles (cal. king x corn) but that in fact would not be a true corn either... :(.
 
The ones I had & saw were not solid black. As babies, they looked similar to young black rats, but the color/pattern stayed pretty much the same as they grew (faded a bit, maybe, but not the way a black rat's does). I do remember seeing the name black albino during the same period...maybe some people shortened that to just plain ol' black?
 
hmmm...maybe it a mexican black milk snake? I dont think it was a rat snake. Although $25 is really cheap for a mexican black. Maybe their supplier thought it was ablack corn and sold them cheaper?:shrug01:
