In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am going to be getting a black ratsnake later this month and am looking for some good caresheets. I have had snakes before and have read some about black ratsnakes, but want to know which caresheets are good and can be trusted. thanks.

Almost all North American colubrids can be kept the same. You could just look at a few different care sheets and look at what the average is for things such as temperature, cage size, etc.

Better yet you could pick up a corn snake care book and follow that. I would just make the cage a little larger.

:iagree: it also dependson how you want to keep them, cage vs. rack. Also if you use a corn snake book or care sheet as a guide remember that Black Rats get bigger and they love to climb. Let us know what you want to do with them and we can help you from there.
Blue :D

Ok, there is nothing wrong with that. I kept a pair of adults in a 75 gal E for years. I had a peice of plexi glass seperating the tank into two sections and each had plenty of room to play. Try to shoot for a 35 gal tall or get the biggest tank you can afford and fit into the house. If you don't want to go tall, a regular 55 gal that you can get pretty cheep anywhere will work also. The lid is going to be another issue all together. They make screen tops for all size aquaria. Try to get one that has a hinge on it so that you only have to open one side at a time. On the oposite side you can keep your heating lamps ( if you go that route) and you will also have an "extra hand" to help keep the snake in when your serviceing the tank.

thanks. he is just a wee little baby right now so he is in a 20 gal. i will save up money and get him a bigger tank for his permanent home as an adult. I used to have a hinged lid for a 29 gal i had before, they are nice, especially if you have a heat light ontop. thanks for the help.

The biggest problem I always had with aquariums is with escapes. Houdini has nothing on a full grown black rat. Just be careful in what type of screen top you get. The clips on most of them are worthless for most snakes.
