In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi Everyone!

We're looking into getting into our next snake species, right now we have 4 ball pythons that we will be breeding soon and were looking into something else as well. We've narrowed it down to the Blood Python and the Brazilian rainbow boa. We are 50/50 on them and everyone we've talked to have been 50/50. Which do you like better and why? We are planning to breed as well. We look forward to your help. Please PM us :)

moved your post to the discussion forums instead of the classifieds.

those two snakes are quite different, bloods tend to be larger, very thick n heavy bodied, not as active generally, where BRBs tend to be lean, much smaller and more active/more likely to use perches and climb around.

Not sure if that helps?

Better do your home work on the Bloods and very patently at that
They are extremely powerful animals and are not your average "handful"
if they choose to be cranky.

I just voted from personal preference, rather than experience, but I find the Rainbows much more beautiful, and you do hear stories of some Bloods being a bit more temperamental....

I've kept both and found the BRB preferable as a pet. The blood pythons I had were a little more temperamental.

This is likely just a matter of preference. Their requirements are different, particularly if you intend to breed, and adult sizes are different, so ultimately it seems that the best choice is the one you enjoy most and are most willing to care for properly.

As a BRB breeder I am more than little biased but...

BRB's while very active are also very easy to handle. Even if one is cranky for whatever reason they can easily be restrained. Add to that the intense beauty and color and hands down a great choice.

Only issue they have is the requirement for higher humidity. Very easy to provide in the right cage, almost impossible in the wrong one. Key point is ventilation, or more accurately the lack of ventilation. A closed box style cage with no extra vents (like a boaphile 321D) works GREAT. A screen topped fish tank does not.

I have a 40" Mid West hook here somewhere that looks like it was hit with a lawn mower after a 5' Black Sumatran hit the BS button.

Just visualize as slow half crushed beer can . . . . .

I'm a rainbow breeder as well, and feel that very few species can compare to their beauty. They are also much more manageable than bloods if upset. Of course, I'm also a bit biased. ;-)

Dave mentioned humidity, but even more crucial is your ability to maintain their viv's temperature. This species only does well at moderate temps -- anything over 85F for more than a short period can kill them. (I shoot for a gradient of 72F cool end to 82F hot end.) If you can meet those two needs, however (temps and humidity), these guys are pretty much bulletproof.

Good luck whichever way you decide to go!

I keep both Sumatran short tails and Borneo short tails, I vote for short tails! ;) Sumatrans tend on the smaller end of the spectrum and are pretty manageable animals and just absolutely beautiful. They require a bit more exacting care, but nothing a competent keeper cannot handle. Having an understanding of snake language ( body language ) really helps with these species as they are overall, docile, but they can get worked up or upset if you dont approach them and handle them properly ( Lots of support )

I mainly stick with boas, but I did get my foot in the door with some sumatrans a few years back. I am at awe to the size and power of a full grown blood python and can't help but give them lots of respect. Otherwise though, I would still recommend a rainbow, as most have here. It just seems like more of a fit in this instance. Best of luck!

BRB and yes I'm biased as well. Awesome colors, great temperment, nice size for a pet, mom incubates the eggs for you - what's not to like? :)
