In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Blood Python Question

I'm sure once she settles in and gets fully used to her enviornment she will be just fine, and she will take a meal as well. Some of them take more time than others....

Thanks! I'm hoping so. She seems to be the "sensitive" type, so we're adjusting. Thankfully she hasn't lost much if any weight yet. Just a few grams.

Yeah, they really do have their own individual personalities! In my collection there are certain things I can and cannot do with certain animals. (All breits, brongs, and curtus') It's almost like you have to adjust to them as well. She's a beauty though. You'll love watching her get better and brighter with every shed!

Thanks! She's actually my husband's snake, but guess who's doing all the work? lol I fell for the Black Bloods at Tinley last week, but I want to wait until we get this girl established and thriving. :D

Yeah the Curtus' are such sweethearts. Such nice temperments. Very very easy to work with. They're the most easygoing out of all the blood/short tails in my opinion! Well that's great that you are putting in all the effort!!

I'm trying, but I have never met an animal that didn't want to eat as much as this girl!

Anyone have any other tips, suggestions, comments? I don't know what else to try. :(

Well, usually once I try all techniques, if all else fails, if it's a matter of her losing weight from refusing feed, I would try a small live hopper. Supervised of course. I've had to use this as a last resort before, and it worked, and I was able to then get the animal switched over to f/t once it put some weight on and built it's confidence back up. Have you tried a hopper yet?

We have tried a hopper, I even tried a live rat pup (less than two hours old) since she had eaten a f/t rat for me the first week. I weighed her this morning, so I'll be calling the vet and seeing what he thinks. I'm really hoping she's just stubborn and not hiding an illness.

And how long exactly has she been with you? Since you moved her to the quieter location in your house, have you been leaving her be completely? I know it's hard to resist sometimes, but leaving them alone and not fooling with them or anything in their enclosure is nessecary at times for a duration when they are under stress and trying to acclimate.....

When we first got her (Aug 30th) she was in a 29gallon enclosure in the main part of the house.

Sept 5th she ate a f/t fuzzy rat. Took her a little bit of time, but ate it.

Since then she has shed once. Actually shed while I was giving her a soaking in the sink.

She has not eaten since the 5th. She has been to the vet who gave her a clean bill of health. She weighed 100grams. This morning I weighed her at 101 grams. Waiting for a call back from the vet.

Things we've tried to get her to eat:

~classic f/t (repeat of what she first ate)
~covered her feeding box
~Feed at night with only me awake in another room
~Feed in tank
~Live hopper
~Live pinky rat

She was moved to the bedroom last week. From 8am to 10ppm no one goes in there. I check her temp in the morning and at night, otherwise I leave her alone.

Her temp is ~79.4-82.8 each time I check it. I don't know how to get it any steadier.

Here she is and here is her current set-up. The breeder I spoke with said to go bare bones and shoe box size. Oh, I mist her when I take her temp.

Sorry the pictures of her aren't that good, she's very active still.

In short, when do I really start to worry about her? She's active, not losing weight, a really great snake, she just won't eat! :(

She's maintaining her weight at best, and she's still very active, that is good. That enclosure you have her in right now looks great. Nice and snug, with a hide, and a body-sized water bowl. Your temps sound fine.

Hmm. When you tried the f/t, did you make sure the item was nice and hot? I feed solely f/t and if I don't have the prey item at just the right temp (hot enough), they won't take it. Also, some of them I have to tease a tad with it to get them to strike. Then again, I have some that will almost knock their enclosure over they hit so hard. I also have one that I just have to leave the item in the enclosure with them for them to eat. She's not LOSING weight yet, so that is a good thing. I will PM you.....

The first and only time she ate for me I bumped her on the head with the rat. Scared the bejeezus out of me. lol Since then nothing.

I admit, after my milksnake I thought all snakes would eat. I mean, what else do they do? lol *sigh*

And thanks! I got your message. :D

You're welcome! I'd like to stay updated on her! I'm sure she will be fine though. I've had to deal with finicky babies before and man I think it stresses me more than it does the animal itself! LOL!

My husband is the one who got me into these guys! Never would I have thought I would own an extensive collection of snakes, let alone Bloods/Short Tail Pythons! Now that I do, I wouldn't change it for the world! I love these animals. They are truely works of art. I bet you'll end up with one of your 'own' in the future! ;-p

If I can get this girl established I'm thinking of getting a black blood. I fell in love with them at the Tinley expo a few days ago. :D
