In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just picked p a new blood today and he looked a little dried out so I'm soaking him in a tub of water . How long should I let him sit there and soak for ?
thanks
Joe

Depends on what you mean by looking dried out, honestly.
If it is shed related vs dehydration vs dry conditions. Regardless, soaking for more than 20 minutes is usually unnecessary unless you are trying to soften retained shed. Just make sure the humidity levels are appropriate and that there is water available & the snake should take it from there :)

the guy i purchased him from he said he would soak him 3 times a week and he said he hasn't soaked him yet this week so i soaked him a little bit . He looked a little dried out so i just soaked him for about 10 Min's
thanks for help
Joe

said he would soak them 3 times a week - meaning he was recommending that, or telling you that was what he did? Again, I'm not sure what you mean when you say he looked "dried out"

look at his skin its like dried out looking the guys said he would soak him 3 times a week

To me he/she looks fine, although the computer I am on is a piece of :censored: , so I may be wrong. Truthfully he/she looks like a nice specimen. If he/she is kept properly there shouldnt ever be a reason to soak him. If the husbandry requirments are met, these animals are pretty self sufficiant. I dont see any stuck shed, so I see no reason to soak him/her. Congrats on such a beautiful animal, Dan M.

Well now that I have seen him on a good computer, my opinion stands. He looks to be in excellent shape to me. He looks to be a good size and alright weight. I would just set him up properly, and make sure he always has access to drinking water as Harald said. Once again nice looking animal, he actually looks alot like a male cross I once had, just bigger. Later, Dan M.

yea he is a cross between a black and a red ( well thats what the guy said ) and you said he has an alright weight do you think he could be little heavier ? I'm just going to set him up like my other blood hes doing great the way i set him up so i might as well set this one up just like the other one thanks for the advice .
Joe

Mine was also a black to a red, so I would think he told you the truth. Here is a pic of mine from years ago before he passed. He looks good enough, especially if you are going to breed him at some point, since really fat male snakes tend to be on the lazy side in my experience. Like I said he looks good, if you were selling him and I had money I would buy him, he looks like he has been cared for well. Take care, Dan M.

I just thought about it when I posted that pic... I said said no need to soak and mine is soaking lol. He though had severe impaction issues, and it was never solved by myself or his vet. He once went while eating normally(1 large/jumbo rat every 10-14 days) eight months without anything, any other snake would have passed, but bloods do go a bit less often than others. The soak seemed to help him go, so if I noticed it had been like 4-5 weeks and i hadnt seen anything I would soak him for like 15/20 minutes). He also had awful sheds, and I believe he was in shed in the photo, although that was taken a few years ago. He was a resuce that I actually took home, he was one of my favorite animals of all time. He used to live under my shirt practically at home during the warmer months. He never came out of there until I took him out. He was a great guy, I wish he had survived, but he was clearly very old and not well cared for or fed, so who knows, you cant win em all as hard as we try. Take care, Dan M.

they look almost the same but yours is has little lighter markings . The soaking thing for impaction i no were your comeing from my baby red blood got impacted (i think she was a wild caught) and hadnt took a dump for me but one time so I had my mom run a vecile on her and she was impacted pretty bad so i soaked her and it relived her quite a bit . Heres a question for you is hard to breed bloods or it fairly easy ?

Joe

Mine only really looks lighter because of the flash on the water(notice he is way lighter under the water than on the surface). I have never bred bloods before, but I dont think that they are terribly difficult to breed. Most likely fairly similar to other pythons, in that they have a season where you cycle them and they stop taking food, and then you introduce them and they breed for a while, then she ovulates ect. I would talk to some different people, but VPI might be a good place to look they breed alot of these guys and would know. If you do breed him though, the babies will never be pure, so make sure you tell people that when you put them up for sale. Might be a harder sell, but honesty is important. It would be cool to breed him to a female cross to see if you get a wide array of different looking babies. Good luck!!!! Dan M.

Where your bloods more on the lazy side because mine do not move very much he checked out his new cage when i put him in there but other then that he hasnt really moved any were ?

joe

All the ones that I have had only moved when they had to. They were never much into exploring or anything. I did have one female borneo that would go outside and truck around, but the rest would sit there. I also had a slightly aggressive yellow female that would haul :censored: when you put her down out side, and then turn to defend herself when I went to pick her up, but in their cages they moved to :censored: , eat, drink, and shed, that was about it. Dan M.

hahah I can just picture his big :censored: tankin around the yard . They don't get mites or anything from being outside on the ground ? I was told thats were they get there mites form is outside . The other thing i don't want to risk of is scaring the neighbors and have my snakes taken away from me is because of there size

Well as far as the neighbors go, I'd let them know what your doing, and as always check local laws and such. If its good with the laws and your neighbors freak out you have to decide whether to be nice or say :censored: em and do it anyway(which is truthfully the way I would do it lol, if its my yard and its legal then I have every right). I have never once gotten a mite, tick, or anything else from my stuff outside. Like with naything else having to do with reptiles everyone is an expert and will tell you something different. I have taken at least 50 different snakes, and probably more than that outside and have taken all my guys outside for the last 5 years or so, and never ever have I had any issue(unless you consider dropping a bomb in the middle of the yard or locking up to breed a problem). I have a year round horny male burm that used to lock my female in the back yard all the time lol(pic below) even in the middle of the summer. All in all, you can always get a can of reptile relief or something and spray them down on the way back in the house if it eases your mind(its all natural so it wont hurt them, just dont hit them with it in the eyes) but like I said I have never had an issue at all. Dan M.

he told you it was a Sumatran, but he also told you it was a black X red...
(for the record, blacks ARE Sumatrans. Black = Sumatran STP, Red = Sumatran blood)

so either way it would be a sumatran because both black and reds are both sumatrans? Im confused and there was 4 or 5 big bloods on the table and my friend I went with said it was a sumatran so i called the guy up and he said sumatran i might have read the wrond tag im not sure. Im just goin by what he told me
