I have a 4ft Hogg Island Boa. She's wonderful.
I have a question for all B.c.i and B.c.c. owners regarding behavior. I read a recent article about how a new cage, one more similar to the animal's environment can often bring about new and more natural behavior.
Now, we all know that boas can are pretty tolerable of many cage conditions.
I keep mine in a 20gal long that is about 14" tall. As boas are semi-arboreal. I'm wondering if she would be "happier" in a tank with more height? When I take her out, she's naturally curious, and gets VERY active. She's interested in climbing (the higher the better it seems), exploring and such. Sometimes it's difficult to get her back in her enclosure.
I know I'm going to get her a bigger enclosure, I saw some larger plastic enclosures, some have a shelf along the back wall of the container for climbing etc.
I realize she needs a long setup, that is, I can't put her in an arboreal tank (square, but tall).
Question: Have people put their semi-arboreal boas in a more realistic enclosure, and noticed any new behavioral changes AFTER they acclimated to the new home?? If so, what did you notice??
