In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

boa plug not breeding question

Thanks I'll try not to let it get to me too much any more I'm normally pretty easy goin' just had a bad time lately. Anyhow the mite treatment is- Reptile Relief for mites in enclosure and on animals every time I clean cages. This time to hope for fresh start I removed animals put light coat veg. oil on bodies and the one with the mites in the eyes I dipped a Q-tip in the oil and lightly coated both eyes. Put both snakes in temp. glass aquarium that was already clean. Then taped off cracks on both cages and sprayed Black Knight roach killer(for mites too) in cages - can tells you how long to spray. tape the rest of the cages up, let sit for a day.. The cages I repeated the process for 4 days. Then let air out for a day and washed inside out. The snakes I left the oil on for about a day then let them soak for 20min. in a very diluted listerine bath. repeat till mites are gone. Keep close eye for next 6wks. If anymore mites do again. Also don't forget to lightly scrape and then thourghly vaccum enclosures for eggs.

Reptile Relief is a fantastic product. My experience with it has been that it kills the mites on contact, but to my knowledge, does not have residual kill power. Seems like you have a pretty good plan, don't have experience with using vegetable oil but i have heard of people using cooking spray when fighting mites. I think Black Knight is permethrin based, which has excellent residual killing power. Other permethrin based products that I have used are Provent a Mite and Walgreens Stop Lice Spray, which is pretty much exactly like the more expensive Provent a Mite but costs like $5.99. I believe Wal Mart and CVS Pharmacy produce similar permethrin based lice sprays.

Good luck with that, and since you are going to keep checking for the weeks to come you should be able to catch another outbreak quickly if you should have one.

Tony, you'll find my first statement below. I ask you, how many big capitol or bold letters do you see? How many exclamation points, or ANYTHING to indicate I was yelling? I wasn't yelling at all, I was being direct and to the point.

This thread disturbs me.

You want my advice? I say you shouldn't be breeding at all if you are so willing to endanger your other animals with a hasty introduction in the hopes of making those babies. And, I think you should separate both animals immediately, and further separate them both from any other animals you have. You already admitted to mites, and mites carry things with them.

I think your actions are quite foolish to be frank with you. :NoNo:

Now below you will find your second statement.

yeah that was one of my thoughts. I think I just got a little overzealous. He did end up givin my female mites I really should have took a closer look when I bought him. and I definetly should have quarentined him. but now the mites are gone but him and my female are under close watch. The treatment for mites probaly didn't help him relaxe either. Thanks for the info. I have to say from now on always quarentine and give him some time to settle in. I feel like a beginner again. Thanks again

You notice the part that's in bold? To me when I read those "But's" it comes across as "yeah, OK, now how about my breeding question". The "but" sorta detracts from the acknowledgment of a mistake. Sorta like, "I'm sorry I smashed your windshield, but you wouldn't shut up" Like it's no big deal.

I realize you probably didn't mean it that way now, and I apologize for my directness in response. It just didn't come across to me at the time, like you were taking the advice seriously. Perhaps I was wrong.

My advice is still to get them separated from any other animals, and each other, at least until a point as you know for sure the mite issue is resolved completely, and they didn't manage to get to any other herps. Them boogers can spread fast no matter how close an eye you are keeping on them.

For the mites, I use Reptile Relief by DeFlea on the serpents, and I use Provent-A-Mite or equivalent for the enclosure. Once they are good and gone, spray the PAM onto a rag, and just wipe the outside of the cages once a month for prevention. Do not use those no pest strips, regardless of who recommends it, or how safe they make their way sound. I have lost reptiles to those things.

Again, I wasn't trying to run anyone off, or stop people from asking for help. I merely reacted when it seemed to me like you weren't taking it seriously. I hope you understand that.

Give the animals two Seperate enclosures too. Keep them separated for awhile. you just got the male, let him settle in and get used to things. as well as to judge his health alone. Regardless if it was a trusted friend or not.

I would not breed them until you are fully ready. All the babies need their own individual enclosures as well, so you would want to be sure you have that ready.

They might be straightforward, and.... rough around the edges at times, but in the end, its because of their passion for these animals. Dont think about it too much. K? :) I wish you well with your boas, and the future.

Who you calling rough around the edges?

I am as nice as they get.

when the mood strikes me. :D

I really do feel bad about it and do not dismiss the mistake and I appologize for thinking you were yelling. Your right I didn't see anything in type that means you were. I just got a little defensive quick, a real bad week starting off with the snakes then work and everything else seemed to pile up. I did seperate the two 2 or 3 days ago he is downstairs and she is in my room. and I do appreciate any and all info. I don't know everything about anything and it's always fun to learn more especially when it's about something you love. Thanks for the advice on the pest strips too I've only heard of it once and it's better to know stay rather than trying once under bad info and losing a pet. Thanks again no hard feelings to anyone. Enjoy your reptiles and happy herping.

That's gotta be the most proportionately marked Salmon I've ever seen. Usually they show at least a little aberrancy to their patterns. And that thin saddle look is pretty nice. I have a couple with that thin saddle look, and hope to make more later on.

The Colombian boy is nice too. (looks Colombian anyway) Sure has a dark tail though. That's sorta interesting. Who produced them? Pet shop have a name?

Thanks. Both of them came from Tim Koppenhofer from Ohio. I didn't ask him where he got them but I don't think they came from his personal breeders. The salmon I think he bought somebodies litter and the stripe tail I don't know. If you get on kingsnake in classifieds and boas go up to the search and type in his name he usually has something posted on there. I'm actually suprised he doesn't post on here. I'm going to ask him why next time I talk to him. He goes to the shows around here ( columubus, cleveland, indy, hamburg, etc.) I think any show within an adjacent state. His prices seem kinda high at first but he usually will give a descent deal. He's a pretty good guy. I'm not a big fan of kingsnake but it has his contact info on there.
