Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Im trying to find out how many people would use a boa rack to house adult males and growing females if it could be better priced then buying cages. The tubes would have a 10' perimeter and you could stack them in one piece sections so your rack could grow with your collection. Im going to try to post a poll for this but I've never done that before.

I wouldn't use them for adults myself. Too enclosed, and not enough room for proper exercise. Not to mention, keeping neos in a rack past their 3rd month bothered me when I had to do it. I quickly bought them cages. They need to be able to exercize for proper health.

I can see it now. My 8ft+, over 25lb female launching out of a tub at my face during feeding time. Good times, good times.

ok - I'll play your silly little game...where did you get THAT information (80% of males won't exceed 6 ft)

I dont wanna play any games its not a fact...... This is a DISCUSSION forum in my experience most males dont exceed 6ft. Did I say I had alot of experience NO but Im intitled to an opinion, its one thing to correct me politly and its another thing to throw hmmmm...wise cracks..... Every time Im on these forums theres always some one waiting in the cut to bite someones head off if they dont agree with something said.. The other guy is quick to jump on the ban wagon too and he's the only one talking about females. Im not here to argue Im here to learn and give an opinion if someone asks for it wich the thread starter did........ Games is the last reason Im here for.......

If you don't like it here, there is a little box with an "x" in it on the upper right corner of your web browser. Click it and your problem is solved.

I would suggest you stop getting so defensive and lighten up a bit. My post was not "jumping on any band wagon." The original post was about boas in tubs and that was what my post was about. It had nothing to do with you and was an attempt to interject a little humor into the thread.

Your right I apologize..... I do need to lighten up I guess.... and I do like it here or I wouldnt be here I know what the X does........ I see it alot not just here on all these forums people are always looking to start arguements to prove they know more than the next guy, not saying anyONE in particular but I do see it. Again I apologize Dennis......

Vinny, lightening up isn't a bad thing.
My initial comment was intended to be a lighthearted way of pointing something out... that not all male boas are small, and that smallish tubs may not be an appropriate choice. Maybe you took offense to it - that happens a lot on forums - but to respond with misinformation AND comment about people being know-it-alls is simply asking for retort. This IS a discussion forum, and opinions are both allowed and welcome...but don't expect to slip BS under the radar.

LOL That'll wake you up in the morning! :yesnod: I got a 7 foot female I could probably feed in my lap. She's THAT mellow of a feeder. But I don't think I'll try. LOL I had a few stupid feeding errors in my time.

Yeah Vinny, you were misinformed. Males have the capability of getting just about as big as females do. Though "typically" they are smaller, it's not always the rule, and usually just slightly.

Thanks for the help

I am seeing everyones point and I agree that you cant house big snakes (7' and over) in a tube easly but I still think that a tube with a 10' perimiter can still hold up to a 6' snake. I know that our snakes get bigger then that but I also know that they aren't born that big SO with out putting your 9' females in tube wouldnt a big tub rack system be nice for growing your future breeders up. I know that my room can get full at times. :shrug01:

You seem to be trying to gauge interest in a possible project/product, but you haven't given enough for anyone to really judge its worth. Are you talking about a rack, ala Animal Plastics or Freedom Breeder. What about the tubs? A 10' perimter could mean a lot of things...what exactly are you talking about? Something specially molded, or readily available (ie Sterilite). The dimensions of the rack, and the direction of tub slide are important considerations as well.
There are both benefits and detractors to using tubs/racks. I have several good sized boas in tubs - the monster sterilites that provide as much floor space as my 4x2 cages - and they work just fine for my needs. Would I consider a rack for boas?? Depends on the rack, its fit & function with regard to my current set up, and (of course) the cost.

Yes, I am trying to get info so that I can start producing racks myself, I have been looking into two different tubes 72qt sterilites (40x20x7) anyone can go to the store and buy these at $16 each which helps with the shipping of the rack and the cost, the other would be an Iris tub which is 52x20x14 but these cost around $35 and then you have to ship them too. Next thing to look at is how to pull them out and I need help on this one, do you like how Animal Plastics work I think that I would like mine long ways with the wall but I know that cuts in to wall space. The racks would be made of light weight metal (seeing that I'm a fabricator) and each section will be in depended from eachother but stackable so you could buy one or five. Another thing I have been looking at is to leave the sides and back open or closed. Overall goal is to produce a nice looking rack that will last and be simple for me to build I know that making it out of metal will up the shipping but I'm hoping to keep to cost down on materials and still make it cheaper then a plastic plain cage.

Based on the implication of the above post, I am guessing that you are talking about a rack more in the style of Freedom Breeder or ARS, than Animal Plattics/Boaphile/Jungle-Habitat (or even Vision). One thing you will have to consider is tub availability. I have never seen a 72 qt Sterilite with the dimensions you listed - though I have seen both the 70qt and 74 qt (each have different dimensions). The 74qt, though carried by Target, is not what I would consider easy to find (several of the Targets in my area don't have them). The larger tub you mentioned has a Sterilite twin (the one I mentioned earlier) that is available seasonally at stores, or via online purchase...but in a hanging track style unit, the two may not be interchangeable. Would the rack you propose come with heat? If you were thinking about a back and sides, you might as well go with a shelved unit...but that would add to weight and cost.

Bottom line - if you were to come up with a reasonably priced unit based on the Sterilite 74qt boxes, I would seriously consider it (if I haven't already made my own by then) because it is a size that I want to work with. The larger box just doesn't lend itself as well to a hanging track style system due to the weight and bulkiness, but would probably still be of interest depending on the access (whether the tubs slide in lengthwise or sideways).

direction

What do poeple like better sideways or length ways, I am goning to biuld mine so it fits flat with the wall (sideways) instead of sticking out 4' from the wall (length ways). I am trying to see how hard it would be but I mite make them both ways (you would choose one or the other). On the tub issue I am still looking into it but the 72qts are always at the targets around here and are the biggest ones I can find with out ordering them in. And because of their size they will hang but also slide in on the bottom rails to help support it. Heat tape will be installed.
