Well here is a PRIME example of someone who neglects their animals:
DeadIrish, aka Dan Currier of Maine.
Dan was once a member Aquatic-Terrors.com untill his posts reflected his neglect and irresponsibility forced the staff to ban him.
Here is a sample of the things we've heard from Dan:
2/11/06 The Colombian Tegu
DAN: "almost cried when I first saw it, due to the fact that I was happy, and it was beautiful although it needs alot of work, and I need a UVB light, heat light and alot more stuff,"

He goes on to say the Tegu is "here to stay," and he "can't imagine NOT having it"
So here he gets a Colombian Tegu, which btw do NOT make good first Tegu pets due to their aggressive natures, and like ALL reptiles, they need heat, food etc..and here he got the Tegu WITHOUT any of the things he needed
Supposably this animal was left on his doorstep in a brown paper bag...If you have EVER seen a tegu, a paper bag would NOT hold it long.

Without a heat source, Im betting it died of RI.
Dan: "he told me why he had brought it over and I guess he really isn't to bad of a guy, he bought it from a pet shop knowing that it'd die other wise since it's been there for so long, and dropped it off in a hurry since he was late for work."
So this guy BOUGHT a Tegu, not because HE wanted it, but just so he could drop it off on someone's doorstep??? They are pretty expensive animals.
DAN: "he's going to bring me to the pet shop he bought it from, and see if they can give him a refund and just give me the money".
Why is this man giving Dan the refund money for an animal HE supposably bought??
Anyone else seeing a problem??
DAN after the Tegu died: "the bad part about this, is that I have a breeding trio of mice now, that Nicki refuses to let me set free out side due to the fact that they are cute and going to have pretty babies".
Ok, that should clue you into Dan's responsibility level, he bought mice to breed and now wants to let them go, and sees the "bad part" of the Tegu's death the fact that he's stuck with mice..

supposably his g/f made him get rid of it, but according to a later post on AT explaining his absence, he wasnt living with her at that time, he had just moved in with her when he "got kicked out of his house" which is questionable...

Trades Tort for Tail Whipping Iguana...
Ok so he gets an Ig that tail whips...Gets an offer from someone else for a Savannah Monitor, a Ball Python and a Leopard Gecko in exchange for the iguana...He's debating on it, because he "really likes the ig"
8/06/06 Ig gone..The decision was made after he was tail whipped in the face by the Iguana while he was urinating and holding the iguana.

Dan when confronted about the frequency of reptile trades: "thats a really good question, and one that I have been wondering ever since I have done it in no way shape or form do I blame the Iguana, as it was my fault 100% but I am happy to see that the Iggy is in a better home where he can free roam whenever he would like". YIKES, unless these ppl keep their house at the proper temps and humidity that Ig will be sick!!

No, Dan, by not providing heat and UV and proper caging, you are neglecting them
DAN: "and this time, despite me doing that crap in the past I am going to keep all of my herps until death do us part,
along with any other herp that I may add to my collection, or any "rescues" that I might take in." Really.....Well I wonder if Dan minds explaining WHY he got rid of the Savannah Monitor to the guy he traded with for the Iguana...??? Why was it this same guy had to come and GET IT because Dan was TOO SCARED to try to find it when it was LOOSE IN HIS ROOM?
I have been keeping reptiles for well over 5yrs..I can tell you I have had a couple of escapes in that time! All of my animals were secured within 24hrs of escape, and not once did I make a friend come and capture the animal because I was afraid it would bite me.
So, in September the Savannah Monitor went to KimK from Redtailboa.net... Who said the Sav had NO HEAT, and it was determined by more experienced Sav keepers that the monitor was really underfed, but thankfully NOT stunted.
At the same time, Dan got 5 Red Tail Boas and 3-5 Burmese Pythons that Louise BEGGED him not to get, and he didnt take care of them before one DIED and he pawned the rest of them all off in exchange for Ball Pythons...
He's also been bragging about breeding a couple of boas for raffle prizes on his site. None of his snakes are currently kept with heat sources, and the small boas he has now and is trying to pawn off "so he can get out of Boas completely" are all in shoeboxes according to a reliable source.
There is NO telling what else happens on his site, and Im pretty sure I don't want to know!
Just on AT, he lied about being kicked out of his house, and not being able to access the computer...But oddly he's been VERY active on his own site as well as every other one this thread has managed to be posted.
I think this shows Dan as an irresponsible keeper, as well as a LIAR.
If you get an animal from Dan, PLEASE TAKE IT TO THE VET and do a FULL QUARANTINE!! Dan does NOT treat his animals properly, and with the high turnover, his snakes are likely to be VERY SICK.
Please forward this to anyone who is considering obtaining an animal from Dan, or anyone like him...This is a pattern of destructive and irresponsible behavior that needs to stop in our hobby.
Unless these people are called out on their crap, it will keep happening.
