In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

With all the recent posts about users not researching a buyer first or having no knowledge about the BOI in general, I thought maybe I could make a suggestion.

At the bottom of every post made by a user are a set of buttons linking to the Ads and Gallery of the user. Why not create a button that, when clicked, runs a search in the Board of Inquiry for the name in the users profile. You will come up with dud results just like you do when running a search manually, but it will short cut for those who aren't very forum savvy.

In reality, it's really only a minor line of code and really shouldn't be a huge expense for Rich to implement (if he likes the idea).

I was just thinking of something similar:

Showing the number of BOI threads shown along with the other information, and better yet, have them linkable.

Well, I'm not thinking about anything that complex...Mostly because the cost of that would be much more then what I'm suggesting. Basically what I'm looking for is just a button next to Ads & Gallery buttons that runs a search in the BOI for the name listed in the profile. Pulling multiple statistics and outputting the data, from a coding standpoint, would be a PITA...Not to mention additional strain on the servers. A simple search button wouldn't be so hard to implement.

Well, I'll give this some thought. But I hope you all know that keyword searches can be real particular about spelling and the words actually searched for. So this would only work in cases where people would use the name in the profile for when they posted BOI threads. Perhaps my programmer can utilize the search function already within the site, as I believe it does have a bit of "fuzzy search" capability built in. Just not sure how "fuzzy" it is, however, and how useful it will be in this sort of application.

I guess my concern would be a mismatch in spelling might lead someone to erroneously believe there was nothing about the person they were looking for on the BOI. Of course, it could help provide disincentive for people already looking shady on the BOI from posting in the classifieds at all, so maybe the tradeoff would be fair....

Could you have your search function search the posters name? (Or is that what you were talking about)

Yes. I assume it will use the name in the profile field. The problem can be more easily understood by glancing at the BOI and seeing the number of threads that do not have the person's NAME in the thread title line. Or the name may be different from the name in the profile if they have an account here. Computers are VERY literal in keyword searches unless sophisticated routines are employed to make them for cognizant of spelling differences and close enough matches.

Yeea, I get it now. And I'm guessing what DAND suggested would have legal ramifications due to possible loss of business and you could get sued. Correct?

Can you open the tags back up so that the posts could be tagged with the person's user name, legal name & if applicable business name?

Look what we do for membership drives & then think about if somebody actually tried to sue him & forcibly shut down or hurt this site over such bs :dgrin:

No, I'm not worried about that aspect of it. Providing links to threads about someone on this site doesn't particularly impose any legal issues.

As for Dand's suggestion, I guess it depends on whether or not the search routine can forward the thread icon for the link display.

Tags have a very serious drawback in that they can be abused by the members making up tags, and there is no way to track down who is doing the abuses. Which because of substantial abuses, with no way to specifically halt the person or persons abusing them, was the reason I had to disable that function. Until or unless there is a way to halt such abuses, I'm not about to open that up again and then have to spend an hour or so cleaning up the gargage people were putting in there.

Can't you imprint the icon to foreward the user to the biggest of each thread? Say i have a bad guy thread on me that's 50 pages vs one that's 2, can you foreward twisted to the 50 page BOI thread when she clicks on the x?

That wouldn't be right, that 2 pager might have very relevant info and not everybody scrolls down to the bottom of the page to check for related posts.

I know that it might have important info. But its more likley that the 50 page BOI thread will have more info in it. Another thing is have it open all of the threads and just make new tabs for each thread. That's a butload of coding tho

I only read the long ones completely for entertainment. When I'm researching someone I check the shortest ones first. It has to be a really special animal for me to wade through a long thread, otherwise I only go about three pages deep plus the last two or so.
