    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Question about the banner...

If you sponsor a banner... do you get the same perks as say the $25 membership. Im mainly looking at the ability to bump your classifieds. I have been getting most of my traffic from Fauna... and I will be giving back.... just not sure how yet.

Sorry, but no. These sponsor ads are considered as strictly advertising for a sponsor. Matter of fact, they aren't even handled internally with the vBulletin script and are actually handled via the FaunaAds script, so there really isn't any uncomplicated way to tie the subscription system to the FaunaAds advertising script.
 
Heck, if you just named in a field on top of the BOI page the members who sponsor the BOI at say a $25 or $50 yearly fee as opposed to a banner ad, I'd be willing to bet you'd get more financial backing too (that is, if a set up like that is possible?). I know I would contribute to such a sponsorship :).

Actually I kind of doubt it would make much difference. The whole reason I am trying this is because just regular contributing memberships is WAY down on this site. I'm certainly not going to dig even further into my pocket to pay for custom programming to try something else. The banner ads are automated, which is a big step up even from the text sponsor ads I have in some forums. Those are all done manually, so periodically I have to review them to see which ones have expired. Then send notices to the people with the expired ones (which often don't even get the courtesy of a reply), and remove those expired ones which aren't renewed. It's actually more work than it is worth, which is why I haven't bothered implementing the text line sponsorships in all forums.

Quite frankly the BOI represents the biggest financial liability of this site, and I wanted to see how many people directly support it, and what it's value truly is here. So I am seeing what I need to see..........
 
Dont give up on it yet Rich.... some folks are probably waiting for clutches to hatch.

No need in advertising for a month... when you have nothing to sell yet.... or very little if they have holdovers from last year.
 
I don't need an ad banner but I use the BOI. It can be pain to dig through the ranting but it has saved me from potentially getting ripped off or bringing disease into my home. If I become a contributing member will you count that towards keeping BOI?

Well, honestly, if contributing memberships wasn't dropping like it is, that would go a long way towards leading me to believe that more people find some value in this site then what appears to be the case. Yes, I know most people won't pay for something that they will get for free anyway. Just as I also know from hard earned experience that most people would rather do without if they HAD to pay for services here.

So as indicated, when I have to make a decision, the facts will be laid out before me at that time. :shrug01:

I did it anyway though, please count it towards the BOI :thumbsup:

I just hope it arrives in better condition than TattooLost's did, though you never can have to many shruikens so I would just consider that a bonus.

Oh I know! They can each give me a baby snake and I'll convert it into a years worth of dues payment! :dgrin:

They'd get a membership and save on snake maintenance expenses. :D

Of those 56,000 how many have a "for sale" ad. I belive that only a paid membership should be allowed to post a for sale ad. It's a shame to see a new person here and their first post and only post is a "for sale" ad. If your coming here to make money then you should give a little back. I don't think that $25 for a year is a big deal. I have to pay $10 for 4 days to put a classified ad in my local news paper. $25 for a year :thumbsup:.

thing is, hes tried it... and in a logical world, that makes sense. but with the internet, people want EVERY little thing for free, because they are so used to it.... ( i can understand it too though )

*shrugs* It would be cool, and it'd be nice to see people help this site out, its definitely one of the best.

That is a shame. Their is just to many "taker's" in this wold. (By "taker's" I mean those who take more than their fair share.)

Yes, I did try it. I found the thread where I showed the evidence that it just was not working. Odd thing is that I wound up reading that entire thread, and have to say it probably is one of the more interesting threads in this particular forum. I didn't realize it was the thread where Mike Greathouse finally got outed until I read it there after all this time. But talk about a thread going off topic........ :rofl:

Anyway, I thought showing the latest stats might be instructive. The BIG dip in postings and new threads is coincident with the time period when I had implemented the pay to advertise restriction. Pretty much paints an inescapable conclusion, I would say.

BTW, the first graph is new posts per month, and the second one is new threads per month...

I've decided to give these sponsorship banner ads another shot for the BOI forum. I've lowered the price to only 25 cents per day, since obviously I shot to high with the initial price. I guess I'm groping for good reasons to keep from shutting down the BOI.... :shrug01:
