Today on my way home I came across a small box turtle in the road. Usually I'll pick them up out of the road and take them home with me to set free on our farm land away from the highways and such. Upon picking him up, I realized this little guy had already been stuck by a car
He's got a crack in the underside of his shell and some blood clotted up in that area. At first he wouldn't remove the foot in that area from his shell, but he's now walking around with it and seems to be ok using it. So what would you do with him? Set him free as planned and hope for the best? Turn him over to a wildlife rescue? Is there anything I can do for him here to minimize the risk of infection before I put him back outside? Infection is my biggest concern, as I don't think there's anything that can really be done about the fracture in his shell. I've posted a picture below. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
