    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Today on my way home I came across a small box turtle in the road. Usually I'll pick them up out of the road and take them home with me to set free on our farm land away from the highways and such. Upon picking him up, I realized this little guy had already been stuck by a car :( He's got a crack in the underside of his shell and some blood clotted up in that area. At first he wouldn't remove the foot in that area from his shell, but he's now walking around with it and seems to be ok using it. So what would you do with him? Set him free as planned and hope for the best? Turn him over to a wildlife rescue? Is there anything I can do for him here to minimize the risk of infection before I put him back outside? Infection is my biggest concern, as I don't think there's anything that can really be done about the fracture in his shell. I've posted a picture below. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Awwww, poor guy. I wish I had some good advice for ya, but I don't know a lot about turtles.

If it were me.....I'd probably clean him up good with something like betadine, do that daily for a good week or so until it looked pretty well on track to healing before returning him to a safe location. Unless you do have a good wildlife rescue near you, I'd think that would be your first best option.

Keep in mind, I'm very far from an expert on turtles (I keep one Boxie that I was volunteered to adopt from a vet, lol)....maybe someone with more good turtle knowledge will post yet.

Good luck with the lil guy. :)

Thanks Cathy! After jumping through hoops yesterday I was finally able to get in touch with a wildlife rehabilitator that will take care of him. The woman I spoke to is a veterinarian and a turtle fanatic, very passionate about them, and she told me a lot of interesting facts about box turtles. It'll be a bit of a drive to get him out there, but at least he'll be in good hands.

That's GREAT to hear, Lisa!!! :D

Even at a bit of a drive, you're lucky to have found someone like that who has the knowledge and interest to care for him....and he's lucky to have had someone like you pick him up. :thumbsup:
