    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Hi Folks,

There seems to be so many BP breeders out there, but just cant seem to find any in Georgia. Does anyone know of a reputable dealer/breeder who I could buy from?

The best I've found so far is Ray's Reptiles in Florida and Once Bitten Exotics in South Carolina?

Please, any suggestions would be great!

Stay away from Ray Torres and Ray Strickland in Florida.

Why are you limiting yourself to just GA? Go to kingsnake and search for breeders there or even on here. Also, go into the chat room about 9pm and there will be a lot of people to help you out there.

Hmmm..the guy who owns Ray's Reptiles is Ray Torres,.why'd you recommend I stay clear?

I'd like to know about GA breeders/dealers ideally so that I could go and see them myself rather than view a pic online. Not averse to shipping an animal, just thought it would be easier to pick it up myself and save some cost!

Still open to recommendations! :)

Just tried Kingsnake and the only options coming up are pet retail stores, trying to avoid those if possible!

Right now it's the slow time for baby balls. Breeders are just breeding their snakes and getting ready for eggs and the season for imported babies hasn't started yet.
In 2-3 months you'll start seeing more and by April and May they'll be everywhere including captive born offspring.
If you really want one right now you're options are going to be more limited and will probably require buying a yearling or larger.

Oh..I wasnt aware of that. I'm especially looking for baby balls. Want to have a snake that essentially's been my own from day one.

How big are yearling's typically?

Depends on how they were fed.. I think a nice healthy weight is around 600 grams. Probably going to start closing in on 3 feet soon as well.. Some breeders power feed, or use a trick where they feed smaller prey items 4 to 5 times weekly, and get them to 1000+ grams in one year. I don't agree with, or recommend that. I like to raise mine the slow way, even if I can't make a quick buck of the poor snakes that are stuffed full of food and bred young. But, some do it, and thats just great for them. But, yearlings aren't the worst idea, you get a nice established well started feeder. Buttttt, I also love rasing them from the time they are young.

It's sort of a trade off, isnt it? If I get it young, it's *my* baby, but then I have to deal with the potential feeding issues, and if I get it older, then it's already feeding and used to being handled.

Choices! :)

I suppose you didn't mean that literally. It's easier to start with well established baby balls and that doesn't happen until they haven eaten at least 4-5 times, at approximately 1 month of age.

Right now my last year "babies", from May are weighing close to 1 lb.

Regards.

So those pics where you see people selling baby BPs that are curling up in their hand..that's usually not what you be getting if you buy an established feeding BP?

That's what you will get more than likely. A well established baby ball ahould be feeding and will look slightly "plump".

That's okay then, just didnt want to get anything really too big. Same reason buy puppies I guess, there's just something to be said about raising your pet from a wee nipper!

I use weight to guage the size of a ball python, most people use grams as the standard unit of measurement.
A newborn ball will normally weigh between 60 and 100 grams with 60-80 being most common. Using that general basis you can tell how established one is by factoring in the age.
The pics you normally see of a ball curled in someone's hand are usually 120-150 grams or so. That's a good size for an established baby, as long as he's not 5 months old or anything.

Once you get up to 4-500 grams it's not really a baby anymore. You'll probably want to find one that's 125-200 or so. That's the best trade off to get a small one and still feel confident it's feeding well.

When you decide, make sure you check the BOI first.

Follow the magic links to the BOI and decide for yourself.

Are there any reptile shows near you? That would be another place to buy a ball. You get to see what you're buying and talk to the breeder to boot.

None, there was one that passed throuhg in Dec, but missed it unfortunately. Going to just have to go with a reputable breeder and have it shipped!

There's a show scheduled in Atlanta, May 13 & 14. Prime season for baby balls, however most of what you'll see at the shows will be captive hatched imports, at least at the shows in the southeast.
Unfortunately there's a shortage of breeders who are intentionally producing normal balls. Thanks to the massive importation of hatchlings every year breeding normals has been regulated to a labor of love, hard to compete with a $20 import.
Look for some breeders producing pastels or another co-doominant morph, they'll be producing normals as a side effect.
