In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I tried finishing a transaction with this seller on Pangea and he cancelled the transaction. He ended up not knowing how to ship the animal and charged me for transaction fees. So, here I am sitting here less than what I originally sent this guy due to his undisclosed transaction fees. Do not do business with this man unless you know what you are being charged for up front (his fees). Thanks for reading, Amanda

Can you please provide any emails about the transaction, and say more about the fees? Were they Paypal fees or what?

Also do you know his last name? Part of the way the BOI functions is as a warning, and without a last name it would be hard to avoid him if we were so inclined.

I paid him via pay pal. He didn't send back the full paypal payment back. When asked why he stated he has his fees per the transaction he has to cover. Shipping supplies, etc. Not many emails, :/ Mostly text messages, however I was just told I can upload those unto the site so I will try to do that this evening after they are converted. Thanks!

Amanda from what you are saying it is not your fault the transaction was cancelled. I would send Paypal a note explaining what happened and that he withheld Paypal fees, and see what they have to say.
I am looking forward to reading the texts. I think it would be a good idea to let him know that you have initiated this thread.

Is this the guy? http://www.pangeareptile.com/forums/showthread.php?62921-Shipping-Precautions&highlight=

I'm going to assume that was the gecko you where hoping for? From what I can tell he just got in a little over his head in the shipping department and if he wasn't confident he could ship the animal correctly I commend him for losing out on money and saving the health of the animal. He honestly seemed willing to do the deal and had every intention of doing so, just lacked the knowledge on how to properly ship and therefore refunded your money. While it is inconvenient and bad business practice to advertise shipping an animal when you aren't sure how to he did refund your money promptly, I don't think he was trying to scam you. I also am confused on what 'fees' you are referring to, the paypal transaction fees or did he keep other money in 'fees'? If it was paypal as Lucille said you can just ask for a refund from them. He doesn't really have any control over the fees taken if you agreed on paypal to accept the charges except to send you extra money back.

MKJurassic, It wasn't about the shipping of the gecko in question in the end. :) If that was it I wouldn't have posted here. I will post the text messages in question soon and you can see for yourself where I am coming from. As previously stated this wasn't about paypal fees. Thanks.

Was is not Paypal fees but just stuff like shipping supplies? If he is withholding fees for shipping supplies he purchased and he cancelled the transaction, he might want to rethink that.

That was my question :) It wasn't clear what the 'fees' were and wanted to make it very clear they were not paypal fees. I'll await the messages!

Paypal fees I am very well aware of. When making a purchase that is protected they take their fees. :) When you have a purchase that is cancelled or that isn't honored I personally don't think it is honest to charge the other person for "shipping supplies, gas fees, etc. I guess the bottom line here is, I won't be doing business with this person again. That's why I posted my thread, if others choose to read this and do then great, but I might have been mistaken. I was told by one of the MODS at pangea to post here. Hopefully, my computer genius friend can upload these convert these text tonight. As previously stated I will contact Brians and let him know I went ahead and posted. I did say something before but didn't post till now. So, I will email him soon.

As a side note: MKJurassic, I hope your gecko is doing better. Long time no talk to. Thanks everyone for reading my post.

Got it! I just think we were a little confused on what you meant by 'fees' in the first post since there are Paypal fees. No that is wrong especially if he never sent you a gecko! That is in no way your problem and completely his. If you don't mind stating it might help to state how much the transaction was, and how much he charged you for 'fees' since that is ridiculous. You can also just take pictures of your phone with your camera or if you have an iphone perhaps screenshot the texts and email them to yourself? You can also just type out the texts on here or simply start by summarizing them so people get an idea of exactly what transpired.

Even if it was paypal fees(I realize it is not), I'm pretty sure Paypal doesn't keep those if you issue a refund. You have do do it as a refund, and not just send the money back, though.

I was going to say something similar Shelly. Even IF it was Paypal fees, he needs to reimburse the full amount that was sent. If someone sends me $100, and paypal automatically takes $6.00...and for some reason I have to issue a refund, I would be sending the person $106. This way, when Paypal then takes the $6 again, the person still ends up with their full $100. NO way, NO how, should any potential customer be out anything, even a dime...if the seller cancels the deal. That is ridiculous.

If you issue a refund via Paypal, using the "Issue A Refund" function, all of the money originally sent to you is refunded.

For example, if I buy a gecko from Bob and send $100, Paypal takes its cut of $6, so Bob only gets $94. If Bob decides not to sell to me, he clicks the "Issue a Refund" link on the individual transaction page in Paypal, and he can choose to send the whole $100 - this takes the $94 back away from Bob and takes the $6 cut away from Paypal so I get my full $100.

You only have 60 days to do this kind of refund though - after that, the automatic refund goes away. If you do it by hand, in order to give me back my full $100, Bob would be out another $6.

But yeah... if the OP wasn't the one to cancel the transaction, they should not have been charged for "shipping supplies" or "gas fees." Looking forward to seeing the texts.

JB you are totally correct. I should have made all that clean in my post, I was referring to a "worst case scenario"situation.
