In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

buyers:

Please beware of purchasing any leopard geckos from Brandon at reptirus.com

He shipped me a gecko that had a large lump on its right hip and swollen back feet, and a broken left toe.

I immediately took her to the vet, did x-rays, and the results were as folllows:

the lump was either:

1) MBD (Metabolistic Bone Disease) (caused by low calcium, very bad condition!)

2) Healed Fracture of the right limb and hip area.

3) Congenital Deformity.

any one of these would make BREEDING HER VERY DANGEROUS!

AGAIN, I PURCHASED THIS GECKO AS PART OF A BREEDING PAIR.

This is absolutely dishonest, and I will be taking further action through Paypal.

Please be careful when dealing with this breeder!!!

thanks again

here is the email he literally just sent me:

If this is the case, I will happily refund you for the female once I receive
her back. Before you send her back though I would like to have a copy of
the paper the vet gave you with these diagnosis listed. I would also like
to have the name and number of the vet because I would like to personally
give them a call and chat with them about what could have caused this,
because this gecko has been in my care since it was 15 grams and I actually
supply a separate bowl of calcium for all my geckos, to make sure that they
have enough calcium, plus I lightly sprinkle their food (meal worms,
crickets, roaches) so I don't understand how she could have gotten MBD.
The gecko has never broken any bones in my care, and considering the person
who bred her is a friend of mine, im sure he would have told me about this
before I ever purchased her. And lastly, if my understanding of a
congenital deformity is correct, I don't see that being very likely either
considering that I just contacted the guy who produced her and he told me
that the parents came from 2 different breeders, both very well known and
trusted, so I don't see how it could be a genetic problem. I am confused
how a qualified vet could not tell the difference between MBD and a broken
healed bone on an X-Ray considering these 2 should look very different. Im
sorry that all of this has occured, I am still extremely confused myself on
how she could have possibly had this problem while in my care and me not
notice it. If you can please get that info to me, we can get her shipped
back and I can take care of a refund for you. If you cannot scan the vet
report and need to fax it instead, please let me know, I have a fax machine
you can fax it to.

HE IS CLEARLY NOT ABIDING BY HIS TERMS OF SERVICE

here is the link to his terms:

thanks for your reply.

Britney, I don't think it is too much to ask to see a copy of the vet report. Since you brought this issue to the BOI why don't you post it here for all to see.

Photo of the vet report...

thanks, I'll take some pictures of the report for now.

I will get a scanned copy asap.

thanks everyone.

Could you please provide a time line of events. How long have you had the gecko, when was the vet visit, how long ago did you contact the seller about the problem, and how long did it take for him to respond to your complaint?
Thanks

Timeline of Events

Hey everyone,

Thanks for helping me out... I've been all over the place today with this..

here is the timeline of the situation:

Purchased the gecko through Paypal Friday, November 16th.

The gecko shipped Monday and arrived today, Tuesday at 11:00 am.

I opened up the box, and went to take the girl out and place her in her new home, when I noticed the deformity.

I have had geckos for years, worked with geckos, and studied them. I knew right away it could have been "healed" MBD or a fracture. So I called my vet.

They assessed her in the office right away, at noon, and did 4 sets of X-Rays. The diagnosis was as posted in my original post.

I'm very concerned, and am worried about the future of this gecko. It's the saddest thing i've ever experienced.

On the x-ray she said her bone density was so low, that you can't even decide between a fracture and MBD... the bones were almost see through.

She showed me comparable x-rays for other healthy geckos her size.

Other than the deformity, she is in great health, and loves to be held, and has a great disposition.

I don't want to get rid of her, I just want to only be charged as though she was a "PET ONLY" gecko.

any thoughts?

Oh, I have pictures of my flikr site... i don't know if they posted properly on here.

What I find disturbing is that the gecko arrived today at 11:00 and you took it to the vet at noon, I'm assuming these are all West coast times since you are in California. Now you posted here at 4:59 Eastern time which would have been 1:59 PST. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like you barely had time to get home from your vet visit before you posted a bad guy thread on the BOI. How much time did you give the seller to respond to the issue before coming here to post?

I gave him ample time. I also spoke with him over the phone right after I saw her. I have an phone with email and internet, so i did many things at the same time. I don't understand why yo are questioning my motives. imagine getting something like that in the mail. it's horrifying!

my vet is less than 10 minutes away. so the process didn't take very long.

Also you say he is not following his terms of service, but I'm curious as to what term exactly you think he is violating? He replied to you around 15 minutes after you posted your first thread and he offered you a refund. Now you say you want to keep her but be charged for her as a "pet only". What is it you think you are "entitled" to receive?

The seller responded and offered a full refund. That should be the end of the story.

Here's the vet report.

The point is, you haven't given the seller the opportunity to make anything right before labeling him a really bad guy.

Why am I questioning your motives? Why do you think you are beyond questioning? I'm trying to determine what happened and when. Going by what you said and the times you posted from the time you saw your vet until you made your first post was roughly 1 hour 50 minutes. In that time you saw the vet, had four X-rays done, had time for your vet to study the situation, discuss her diagnoses with you, pay your bill and drive the 10 minutes home to post a bad guy thread. 15 minutes later he replied and offered you a refund. Where do you get off claiming he is a bad guy? Sounds like you are a "Bad customer" who didn't give him time to resolve the situation to your satisfaction or you are mad that he didn't let you dictate to him the terms of how he should solve the problem. Or perhaps you are just a drama queen? Time will tell...

Maybe I'm missing something here but how is the seller not honoring his TOS? He said he would take care of you once he got the info and then received the animal back.

Also you didn't give them any time to take care of this before you came running here. The BOI is more of a last resort after you've tried to work things out and failed. You didn't give them a chance to make it right or fail to do so... Randy

the fact is...

HE KNEW ABOUT THIS

it's ridiculously OBVIOUS and has denied it plenty of times.

I believe i'm entitled to a full refund for this gecko and any shipping. it is a mack snow het bell.

I'm already out for vet bills.

I don't believe i'm by any stretch a drama queen...

I really just want the best for this gecko, and wanted to let people know the condition the gecko was shipped.

I do apologize if it sounds like i jumped the gun, but the seller wants me to ship it, with the faith i'll get my money back? that doesn't sound to right to me, thats all.

it's kinds scary... haha.

anyone have any ideas?

You guys have been very helpful thus far, i thank you.

I agree that you should be compensated for the gecko, shipping both ways, and your vet costs. But give the seller a little time before calling him a "REALLY BAD GUY". These threads are forever and this one may come to bite you in the butt sometime down the road. I'm not sure that I'd want to sell to you if this is your typical means of dispute resolution.

That may be a fact as YOU see it, but you haven't proven that he knew anything. What you believe you are entitled to and what he thinks you are entitled to is between you and him. That being said, do you think that he may have been open to refunding you for the gecko and the shipping and vet bills if you had given him time to assess the situation? Did you tell him you were going to the vet less than an hour after the gecko arrived? Did he agree to paying for the visit? Or did you just go off half cocked and now are making irrational demands? Did you tell him what you wanted and threaten a BOI post if he didn't cave in to your demands? These are all valid questions, and should have been considered before you made your "Bad Guy" post. You opened the box Pandora, now you have to deal with the consequences before getting it closed.

hey, I appreciate your responses.

and yes, I told him I wanted to take the gecko to the vet. He responded, and also said he got a call from another person he shipped to that arrived today, claiming the same problems I was, which also leads me to believe things just were not right. leading to the "bad guy" report.

I did not threaten the seller in any way, nor do I want to.

I really enjoyed my conversations with the seller, and the entire transaction process, other than the gecko i received.

I have been in conversation with the seller all day, and am still considering mailing the gecko back for the refund.

I just don't want this to happen to another person, especially an unsuspecting costumer who wouldn't know the condition was "Abnormal" so to speak.

I hope this helps make some sense.
