In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My boyfriend is interested in a snake, but, it was a former breeder. I need some advice that would be much appreciated. The snake once purchased will NOT be used for breeding purposes, pet only. Will a prior breeder make a good pet?

Thank you in advance!
Michelle

Yes make sure it is healthy and that it is tame enough to get out of its enclosure. Some breeders has strong food instinct it's not a high percentage but just be sure to ask that. Good luck!

I would recommend a breeder. Not having to go into worry mode when/if a baby ball python stops eating is a plus. Granted it can happen in adult breeders too but not as big of an emergency if the snake has some weight on it.

I use to own and breed YEARS ago when living in South Florida (as a hobby, nothing big nor major)... Ive heard a few complaints of babies that just stopped eating, ive never understood that. All of my snakes were use to eating F/T and a handful refused, but, never went off feeding longer then 2 weeks at max.

Im just afraid that a breeder snake wouldn't have been handled as much and would be a bit more tempermental. He has a niece that is excited and would love to hold one. Im just afraid to get one with one bad attitude that would strike or bite her and the others.:ack2:

I have lucked out so far. I have only had one adult female breeder I bought that had a bad attitude. The rest have been easy to hold with no striking or hissing. Most folks are honest about the temprament of a snake if you ask.

I probably panic far more than I need to when babies stop eating. It is just a habit for me. That is why I am both excited and worried to start breeding again.

I have been bit 6 times since I started getting my breeding collection together. All of those bites were from babies, my adults are pretty rock steady. I have a baby boy lemonblast that is still nippy from time to time and he'll be a year in December.

IMO, it depends on the snakes personality but babies seem to be more nippy.

Luckily, I have never been bit by any of my snakes... Even as babies, they have all been well behaved. Im just worried on their temperament since I am not the one who has raised them. A fear for my boyfriends niece is what its all about I guess.

I agree with Kelsie. Since I have been into Ball Pythons I have been bit a lot more by babies. The only grown one that has bite didn't even strike ( I think she just wanted to see what I tasted like:shrug01:) all she did was open her mouth and slowly closed it on my thumb then let go. I wouldn't have even felt it if I hadn't watched her do it. My fire used to be a handful as a baby, he would strike as soon as you opened up the tub and keep striking the whole time it was opened, but has really calmed down as he got bigger and I don't really hold him very often.
