    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I got a new leopard gecko to live with Chikita. Its a male and his name is Totosi. I would like for them to breed. How can i tell when Chikita is gravid and how can i tell when she is preggie? Oh and how do i go about getting my seller's license?
 
It would be best to house them seperatly for now until all of your research is done. Just so that you can avoid any mishaps or accidents that could result from breeding.

It is better to know before hand instead of "learn as you go" for the most part anyway :)

Do as much research as you can before you try and produce babies. Nothing is worse then trying to hatch eggs and losing them because you arent knowledgable enough to hatch them. There are alot of great sites out there with tons of info.
Also, there is no license to sell. Or at least, I've never had one. You do have to pay attention to your local zoning and make sure you aren't going to upset the township/borough you live in by having lots of reptiles (I had a crazy, literally, sibling try and get me in trouble with my borough for onl ine sales and it was a mess until I "shut down" for awhile) FOr the most part no one locally knew I even had lizards in my house.

Check with your State Dept. of Fish and Wildlife. I don't know about Florida, but here in New Jersey you need a permit to keep most reptiles and a different permit to sell them. Also, invest $9.00 in purchasing "The Leopard Gecko manual" Read it all the way through and it will answer most of your questions. Good Luck.
 
i have a book that is all about geckos. i am trying to get the money (just started a new job) up so i can get a book on leopard geckos and only leo's. According to the loacal reptile shop i need a sellers license. I will check with fish and wildlife. I have one other question when i got totosi he was housed with anoles and other common fl lizards. totosi was not thw normal black spots and yellow coloring he was all brown. but since i put him in the tank with chikita he has gotten his normal coloring back and is more active. why is it that he was brown when i got him?

The shop may be talking about a sales tax lic, as needed in most states when you start a business selling anything. Call your local DNR, I believe the last time I checked for FL, (family lives there that also breeds leos) they didn't require any special lic.
 
He may have been all brown from low temps. I know my guys brighten up in higher temps and in the winter they dull out a bit, some turning almost a brownish. That or he is sick. You did quarantine him prior to introducing him to your other? If he was in wiht anoles, which are probably wild caught in the FL area, he could be carrying any number of parasites, or other uglies. Pet shops are stupid when it comes to the proper care and housing of reptiles. They just toss them on to save on space without regards to heat, species, and health....
good to hear he brightened up. I do recommend a book on Leos, but there is so much good info on the web too. Just don't do anything the petstore ever says!
If you are going to open a petstore / storefront and sell your Leos, then a sales permit would be expected, but if you are talking about just selling a few babies here and there...unless it is just to keep reptiles in general. Check on it. Techincally in my township, if I do ANYTHING in my house that generates income I have to have my house special zoned as commercial. HOWEVER, since what I do is internet based and I do not have people in and out of the house, federal laws govern that and the local can do nothing about it. They can't tell me that by putting an old toy on EBAY I must be living in a commercial residence. They can tell me that by having customers in and out of my house, I need to be zoned. If you are thinking about having a web site, and really getting into it then talk with other breeders in your area about what they have done. Good luck

a friend gave me totosi. and yes i did quantine him for about 3 months. although he is used to having a tank bigger than a 10gal. he keeps trying to find a way out of the tank.
