    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Brendan Magee - FAILING to Complete His Contract

Well Jeff, the day that you get screwed and need the support of the reptile community (and wish to assist the reptile community by posting notice of a scammer), maybe this "giant angry mob" will ignore your pleas for help & solutions.

I personally am getting really tired of reading posts about the "mob-mentality" of the BOI. If you don't like it, why be here?

All the while that you are idly sitting back doing nothing, this board is here bringing about justice. Brendan has the opportunity to come onto this board and defend himself. It is not like this is a private board. It is a fact that he has been on here reading it so it is by his own choice that he does not post. Show me one thing posted on this thread that would indicate that he is a stand up guy.

As for your comment about Shawn ruining his chances at a refund, nice to see you endorse such behavior. Shawn had everything to gain and nothing to lose by posting here.

I think you would understand that Shawn may have other motivations for having begun the thread, not the least of which would be to create a record to warn others lest they make the same mistake with Brendan. While the initial reaction from many who are accused, as Brendan is, of having scammed etc. is negative (more hostility, BS, etc), he also knows now that this thread is here and will be an even bigger open wound on his reputation until Shawn can post here that they worked something out. Other members here often belittle posters who come to the BOI too soon regarding a dispute .... I think I've done it once or twice. But Shawn has been more patient than most. All IMHO ... naturally.

You have GOT to be a friends of Brendan, I don't buy it any other way.

So you honestely think that Shawn shouldn't have done nothing...

Whatever, look how far THAT has gotten him. Zip, nada, nowhere. He was even willing to take an animal thats only 1/4 of the value then whats owed to him and STILL Brendan prefers to jerk him around and does nothing.

When has it become commonplace to simply expect to get scammed and to simply take it?

Or better yet, shut up about it and hope that this will help ???

I know that I would not come near either of those brothers now. Obviosly Brendan has turned into a scammer, just the way it is.

And his brother pretty much condoned this behaviour by saying that Shawn would have been better off not saying nothing about this BS. I don't want to do business with anyone that has that kind of attitude.

IMHO Brendan obviosly just don't want to pay Shawn...whether with animals or money, no matter. He is just waiting for Shawn to blow up, and then he can say ...."now that you're so mean and brought it to the BOI you're just not going to get anything..."

Well, kudos Shawn for bringing it here. At least now other prospective buyers, sellers or "breeding loaners" will know what they're dealing with.

And I still say, Shawn, go after him with ALL you got, you have a contract. Go after all of it, go to small claim courts if neccessary. And keep spreading the word far and wide in the meanwhile.

Good thing is, word sure travels very fast in the reptile community. Very fast and wide.

This one question just kept popping up for me... forgive me if it was covered in your original post. (Though I re-read to see if I might have missed it.)

Did you ever receive proof that your male was dead? (Photos? Body? Etc.?) Proof other than the e-mail sent to you by Brendan stating that it was dead?

I was given permission to post a PM from an individual that has done business with Brendan in the past. This information is (at least deemed by me) to be very important not just to this situation but to the entire reptile community (particularly boa's and python keepers). However, they have requested that their name be withheld. Does a PM constitute third party posting since I have permission to post it?

I don't know Jeff do you look here before you buy from someone you don't know? A lot of people do and I'm not alone when I say it has saved me from dealing with a bad guy. It has also gotten people to do the right thing. It's easy to just blow someone off and ignore them when all you see is an email but when it comes here for all the reptile world to see some have then ponyed up and done the right thing. Yeah there is often some drama but it gets results fairly often.

Will Shawn get his money from Brendan? who knows but Brendan's name is out here for all to see just how he does business. Would you do a deal with this guy? I know I wouldn't send him money or an animal. So yeah some drama(I see it sucked Tracy in and now you) I do wonder why this thread of all the threads on the BOI why did Tracy decide to participate in the drama of this thread????..Randy
 
Bob I sure hope he lets his name be used as I don't think they will allow it any other way.. I agree that the PM is very important to the reptile comunity and I hope that information gets out for all to see. Randy

Without a name attached to it, it is not allowed. The information would be suspect at best without someone's name attached to it.

It's not a mob mentality. It's called peer pressure and has worked numerous times in the past to make people do the right thing.

Just my $.02

I don't usually post here but I figured I would on this one.

I think that it is obvious to any good business man or buyer, which I currently am, that Brendan owes Shawn $$,or an animal they both agree on. I think it is also obvious that Brendan is far from a professional. If I had been in the same situation as Brendan I would offer my entire,modest collection as, at least partial payment(my collection is worth far less than Brendan's) to make right on the situation. Perhaps I am too honest and selfless but when you put some one out intentionally or not you owe it to that person to at least make an effort to make things right. Brendan has not done this. It is obvious to me that Brendan is unwilling to do the right thing, even when given a chance to get out cheap.

I for one will be real cautious around the Magee name. I'm not saying that Tim is in any way like his brother when it comes to business, but I would always be thinking twice, and I wouldn't even click on an add of Brendan's.

Shawn I wish you luck in resolving this, however slim the chances.

As far as the postings of Tracy and her Husband, so should we assume that if you you were in the same situation as Brendan, you would handle it the same way he has?? You have the story,with emails,staring you in the face and you still think this way? I'm flabbergasted. It seams to me that you are completely dismissing the fact that Brendan is not willing to own up to his responsibility and pay the man or rectify the situation.It's almost as if you are condoning his actions. I'm not trying to draw attention away from where it should be but given your statements on this issue I wont do any business with you or any one with similar views on the subject. Oh wow. Happy snakes does not that make. Somehow I think this is really bad news. How does this affect things now? It will interesting to see the outcome. This is also a turn I have already suspected and wondered about, too.
 
As far as terms of the contract, it would be very logical to expect that in the event of an unforseen incident such as this, the terms would be no longer than the terms of the loan had it been carried out with success. I would be willing to bet any judge would see and use that reasoning, too.

Restitution should come immediately, but if that is not possible, then it should take no longer than the time it would take for the mating, gestation, hatching, first shed and meals, and shipping of the agreed upon share of the offspring.
 
What some seem to be forgetting, especially Jeff and Tracy, is that Shawn offered to call it even for 25 cents on the dollar. You would think Brendan would have jumped at this.

I looked and I liked those animals but not as much as the original one that was sold so I continued to look for low priced animals I actually had a use for so I could help Brendan out. I found another nice Harley and sent him the link, only difference this one was $500 shipped where the first was just over $300. Either way a nice DISCOUNT when the balance was $1900.00 and I am offering to call it EVEN for $500.

IF this is true above, then I will amend my last statement, to say I will steer well clear of them both. But at this point to me it is just speculation and nothing more but WOW. Never would have guessed it. I do have to wonder what this person would have to lose by posting their account of dealings with Brendan.IF and again IF this is True then that I think would be an even bigger blow to the Magee's then Brendan's horrible business ethics. And I only say the Magees and not just Brendan, because they are so closely related.

Randy, as you well know, I would NEVER put something like that out on the line without knowing that there are 2 year old vet pathology reports, bills etc to back this up. I, too, hope that this individual will come here and tell the story since I obviously cannot print his PM.
