Hello,

I don't know how easy it is to identify a bumblebee. We saved this one from drowning this summer (july). After being removed from our pool this little one got the time to "catch his breath" before flying towards other flowers... It was the first time I photographied a bumblebee by being at only one inch of the insect ;-)

I think it is the "Usurper bee" (Psithyrus citrinus) but I'm not sure...

Can you help me on this one??? The picture was taken at Sherbrooke Quebec (near Vermont/Maine).

Thank you very much in advance,

Michel

Hello Michael,

It can't be "Xylocopa virginiana" (carpenter bee) because we don't have this species in Quebec (btw, Lynette Schimming is the name of the photographer ;) ).

Thank you for your help and thank you for your appreciation of my pictures!

Cheers!

Michel

Hey Mike
Great pictures and after I looked a distribution map I think that is P. citrinus.
Just one question what is the overall length of the bee.?
Can't be a carpenter or even a cuckoo bee as the band is not the same.
I really enjoy your posts Mike

Hello John,

Thank you very much for your quick answer :)

After verifications with other people on other forums we are all right: This is a "Usurper Bee" (P. citrinus). For the length of the insect: I don't remember :shrug01: ! The easy answer is "the size of a bumblebee"

Thank you also for your appreciation of my pictures! It is always appreciated :)

Ciao!

Michel

Well then, it looks like my guess was wrong, I should have checked out your location first
