In case most of you have not noticed, I made changes to the donation amounts as well as the durations for all of the paid membership levels. Things are winding down here, and this seems to be the most prudent way to deal with the "end of life" period of this site.
Contributor level members - $10 per 30 days
Sponsors - Eliminated
Benefactor level members - $25 per 30 days
Endowment level members - $50 per 30 days

Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

This pretty much shows why Facebook is so popular and sites like this one are failing. Participation and engagement. I am sure some people tried for that here, and failing, they then went to other platforms where their postings felt more appreciated. Same video I posted above on Facebook got 281 acknowledgements from viewers and 13 forwardings to other peoples' own Facebook accounts.
So, no secret why we are losing sites like this. Honestly, I spend a lot more time on Facebook than I ever thought I would simply because what I post there seems to be appreciated much more than here. Guess it is an ego thing. Everyone likely likes to have what they say appreciated and at least acknowledged by others. I am no different in that regard.
Please excuse me for giving up on FaunaClassifieds. Or not. I really don't care. August 1, 2027, this site will be gone. Maybe sooner if I can get around to checking where the point will be where I can close it down without losing even more money by refunding paid memberships than I lose by paying to keep the server running. I have just flat out run out of reasons for why I shouldn't close it down. You all have voted with your feet and your wallets and I am finally paying attention. At least I will no longer have to worry about server issues, internal coding or interaction errors, or people complaining about Joe Shmoe being mean to them.

It is in part the directionality. On a forum, one seeks it. On a social media feed, it seeks you. There is an effect of path of least resistance to it, too. It is very easy (but feels cheap to me) and most people seem to like the easy (and cheap) manner of it. I am not opposed to materials matching my interests being directed towards me, but I am the sort who is more appreciative of a personal investment of sorts when seeking things out. The cost in effort or time spent. A little bit of earning in the process. I feel like things I find important also stick better that way. I think most people have become accustomed to quick stimulus hits and moving on to the next one once the little high has been triggered.
