Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them.     Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

burm won't eat F/T, any ideas?

Hey Guys,
I have a male albino burm that i have had for about a year now, and he is just over a year old. Ever since I got him, he will only eat live or freshly killing rodents. All my other burms dont hesitate to take F/T. I have tryed many methods to persuade him(including putting fur clippings of live rodent on F/T, flicking the nose so a little blood comes out, showing a little brain, and getting the F/T extra hot) but he will not take a F/T. I wanted to know if you'll know of any other tricks that may help me switch this guy over from live to F/T. Any advise would be great! Thanks

I hate when they do that.
Will he take a f/t immediately after a live? That is often the easiest way to switch them...get them into feeding mode with what they want, then offer them the desired prey item as soon as the first one is down.
Do you dry defrost? or defrost them in water? I defrost in water, and the degree of wetness can sometimes be a factor. With some, I have found it helpful to have the prey item dripping wet when I offer it - they come up and drink the water as it rolls down the prey, then just open up and eat. Then again, there are others that don't like them even a little wet.
You can try offering different types of prey, too. I have had 1 burm that wouldn't take f/t rats, but would take f/t anything else. I had to play the start her with a mouse, then offer a rat game until she was big enough for rabbits. PIA! Good thing I liked her.
Cage temp can be an issue. Sometimes, at the lower end of the range, they will respond to the stimulus of live prey but ignore f/t. You could try increasing overall temps to the higher end.
I'm sure you've probably tried letting him get hungry before offering, so I won't suggest that (but if you haven't...., lol)
 
Thanks, that sounds like good advice. I have tryed giving him live to get them into feeding mode, but after the live, he shows no intrest in F/T. I have always defrosted them in warm water, so maybe i should try letting them sit out for a while, then warm them up. Also, after defrosting, i have tryed drying the F/T with a hair dryer. That didnt seem to work either. At this point i will try adding a little 50 watt bulb to increase the overall temps, and ill give the dripping wet F/T a shot. Thanks again!
