In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey people,
I wanted to find out if you had to choose between Retics or Burms which would you choose and why? I am a dragon guy, but I have always loved big snakes like these. So I thought I 'd ask what you like.

:shrug01:

I would choose a retic, because I find the pattern more appealing than a burm's.

Actually, I've kept both, and liked both....but if I were to have one again, it would definitely be a retic. Then again, if we open up the options just a bit; and narrow them a little, too (to even the playing field by excluding morphs) - I would choose an Afrock over a burm or retic. Every time. No hesitation. It's not that they have outstanding coloration or wild patterns, but they are just such great snakes.

I too like the retic's pattern better, but nothing to me beats the Green burm. I love the spots and background pattern

I didn't know Afrock's were "such a great snake" I always veiwed them as aggresive and un easy to keep. Thanks for the perspective guys

Most people that have that viewpoint have never taken the time to get to know an afrock :D. Or, maybe it's just that I could relate to them....who knows. I've had a bunch pass through my care, and most were quite tractible when they moved on to their new homes (I fostered quite a few for the herp society's adoption program). My own rocks - well, I trusted them as much as any burm I ever kept, and was quite comfortable handling them...but nobody else could get near them. I think that's part of why I like them so much, lol.

Oh so you like their "dog like quality" of loving you but hating others ok I can understand that. So their arn't any color variations? That's a new one. It seems like everything has at least one.

RETICS ALL THE WAY! I own both and love burms but the retic seems to be alot more active and aware. Have you ever seen a retic yawn? those teeth are frickn huge!

I feed my 4 footers 1 small rat every 6 days and my biggest(16 foot) 1 7lb rabbit every 2 weeks. feeding cycle opinions do very though! ps, did you see the price tag on that box of retics? oyfg!

I have owned 15 or so Burms and 5 Retics. The only African Rock I had was the worst snake I ever owned. It would strike at the glass ever time you walk by the cage. It would lunge out of the cage when you slide the glass doors. I cant tell you how many times it tried to bite me.

On another note I would choose a Retic. There is something so fascinating about there size. Plus look at all the morphs you can choose from. My favorites are the reduced pattern super tigers and the genetic stripes.

Thanks
Brandon

I have Both Burms and retics I think of a Retic to be MOre Exotic but a Burm to be a couch Potato.

Gunna probably go with burms the personality is just so original.

I'll put a plug in for the Burms, simply because of the difference in thickness. Not to put down retics cause I've only had one of those verse dozens of big Burms. Including the 13' green that I currently have.

Jim, I know right? a few hundred gallons of gas for his van wtf kinda van is that??? and 17lb rabbit few, so while I am getting all this great feed back what is the cage size for an average adult Retic and Burm....?
ALso yeah retic's pattern is AWSOME my favorite is lav albino hehe

standard tigers will always be my absolute favorite. my 12 footer is housed
in a 7 foot custom.

really, I always thought a big snale need some room to stretch, like a 10-12 foot cage for a big guy! SO a few more Questios, What sex? ever got tagged by one and how? Also Average adult size?

the sex of a retic never mattered to me until I was serious about breeding them. now I have several adults both male and female, several different morphs and locales. Locale plays a huge part in the size(or potential size)
a animal can acheive. as far as getting bit ,how bad and why....check out
the thread "what animals have you been bitten by". If you smell like a
rabbit, you are probably risking getting bit. ouch! lol:eek:
