In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Question….
How many of you, who run out of the home reptile breeding and selling businesses have business licenses?
Why I’m asking: My wife went applied for a business license in Nassau County, FL to sell reptiles (not out of the home, but via online). The woman told her she would need permission of the County Zoning Board. My wife has all the Florida permits to sell and maintain the animals we own the animals we have. We live on 5 acres in a designated agricultural and residential property. All our critters meet or exceed FL requirements for enclosures. We bought a big enough place that we more then enough room to raise what we (she) wants. I am concerned with going to the Zoning Board, I’ve heard they can be anal and since this is my home, I really don’t want people coming to check it out.
Is a business license really an issue? We don’t mind paying the taxes ( taxes pay my wage now), but we don’t want to get wrapped up in bureaucratic BS, being denied then tracked or monitored by the county for what we own. My neighbors, both sides and across the street, though some distance away, know about our reptiles…. But are more concerned about the 2 Doberman Pinschers eating their hunting dogs (lol)

How many of you have a business license for a home business?

What are the pros and cons of the license?

If we sell CB reptiles or not, my wife will still own the parents, since they are pets… which is another reason that I really don’t want people looking around and freaking out.

Each county is different than the next one...

I have known of people in difficult counties to just get an occupational license to sell mailorder / Internet pet supplies. Then they sold some pet supplies, and in addition, sold their extra pets from their home "hobby" as well.

You also have to get a state sales tax license, and of course, the state Fish and Game license to sell if you sell live animals in Florida.

I just run a supplies store online. I had to get a EIN number, DBA, NYS Tax certificate of authority and NYS Resale Certificate. I'm not sure if each state requires all of this, but everything was free except the DBA, that cost $30 to file.
