In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey a buddy of mine is looking into getting a crocodilian. I currently have a young alligator thats extremely tame, but he wants something a bit more of a challenge to tame. I was thinking something along the lines of a spectacled caiman or something of the sort. He only has the space for an animal that roughly 10 feet long.

Im looking for any opinions or suggestions you may have. Thanx a bunch!

That was my opinion. Posts like that scare me for too many reasons.

My suggestion for his friend would be a nice Wolverine. I hear that they are kinda hard to tame, and they are under 10'. Sounds perfect. Imagine how cool he'll look carring it around the neighborhood

My opinion...

Granted American Alligators get to be larger than Spectacled Caimans but in my experience Alligators train better and are usually tamer. This would make them more suitable for a beginner in my opinion.

Ha yea thats what i told him to but he thinks that because he has a 7 foot Water Moniter and a bunch of other stuff he can take on anything. I tried telling him to try an alligator first but he doesnt really have the space for a 15 foot animal.

What would you say is the most tameable caiman is? Or are they all about the same as far as aggressiveness?

Caiman latirostris is by far the most aggressive caiman, followed by Caiman crocodilus. The Paleosuchus aren't really all that aggressive, but they aren't all that tameable either. By far, the most calm and tameable caiman is the Paraguayan Caiman yacare. They get quite large and similarly tameable as an American alligator

Now is the time to bear in mind that calm, and tame, are very relative terms when you are talking about a crocodilian, lol. My yacare, at 7+ ft was a tough animal to work with. Touch any part of his body and he whipped around in attack. On the ground, he would charge aggressively. The mouth noose became my friend, and I became fairly adept with it.

Each individual has it's own personalities, I'm talking as groups on average. Our largest C.latirostris can't even be kept with others. We've tried breeding him several times and all he does is kill the females. He's an exception because all our others cohabitate relatively well. Most of our batches of C.yacare are very docile. I can walk amongst the largest ones without fear, and have even scratched them under the chin without loosing body parts. And none of them were raised to be "pets", this is how they turned out on their own under fairly natural conditions. At the same time I have a C.crocodylus that runs around my house and is about as dangerous as a puppy dog. Most of our other ones I wouldn't even dream of letting in the house.

thanks! i think im going to look into a Yacare for him. Does anyone know of a breeder or somewhere i can get one?
