In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

while bitching to my fiance ( who lives in Canada ) about the humane society and this bill she informed me of this tid bit pf information and pointed me to this link. yes this is a Toronto issue, but if this is what their humane society is up to should we expect any less of ours?
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2009/11/26/warrant-humane-society.html

Yes, I'm aware of the problems with cruelty issues at the Toronto Humane Society, but understand this: The "Humane Society" of the United States is NOT affiliated with any local humane societies anywhere in the United States or Canada. They do NOT fund or operate ANY animal shelters whatsoever. That name is part of their vast deception. People see the words "Humane Society" and automatically, as you did, assume that this is an animal shelter/rescue or a network of shelters, that take in abused, homeless and neglected animals and adopt them out to new and loving homes, so people are willing to donate their money to support this organization. The HSUS does NOT own, operate, or fund in any way ANY animal shelters or rescue organizations, and they do NOT adopt out animals! They are strictly a lobby group which is seeking to end all animal use and ownership through the passage of laws at the local, state and Federal levels, laws which, like S373, are outright bans, or laws which put such "red tape" and financial burdens on farmers, ranchers, animal breeders/sellers, food retailers, clothing shops, etc., that they will be forced to give up any association with animals or animal products. The goal of the HSUS, like that of PETA and ALF, if the total elimination of ALL animal-human associations, of ALL animal use by humans, no matter how indirect that use might be(like using eggs to develop flu vaccines, for instance). They are committed to forcing a totally vegan lifestyle on every man, woman and child, while exploiting controversial topics and public fears and ignorance, all the while putting up that false front of "helping" animals. They are a dangerous organization, as well, in more ways than one. TV news reports which have aired unfavorable reports about the HSUS have been threatened, and their spots removed. All anti-HSUS news broadcasts that were taped and put up on YouTube were removed, and can only be found on IRANIAN servers, now. It's no coincidence that Wayne Pacelli's favorite person to quote is Al "Scarface" Capone.

Can't vote but would love to!

I am Canadian and would love to vote but it asks for my zip code to register to vote, so I will just send my support this way!!

Today the Senate Committee on the Environment & Public Works (EPW) held a business meeting on S. 373. Committee Chair Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Ranking Member Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) presided. After brief statements the committee held a mark up session on S. 373, to amend title 18, United States Code, to add constrictor snakes of the species Python genera to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act. Senator Inhofe expressed concerns about the bill. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) offered an amendment to limit the scope of the bill to only the 9 snakes addressed in the USGS report on large constrictors. Senator Cardin further agreed to work with Senator Inhofe to improve the bill prior to a vote on the Senate floor. The amendment was passed by voice vote. S373 was then voted out of Committee by voice vote with Senator Inhofe registering a NO vote.

S373 has now passed committee. It can not become law until it is voted on and passed by the full Senate and House of Representatives. There is still much work to be done prior to the Python Ban becoming law. S373 in its current form in unacceptable to USARK and the Reptile Nation. We will continue to work with Senator Inhofe, Senator Cardin and the EPW Committee Staff to shape the future of this bill. Please make an appointment to visit with your Senator and express your concerns with S373. Everyone needs to step up and make contact with your Senator. Let USARK know about your meeting. It is time to step up our game and show Washington we are serious about this. Continue the good fight. The Reptile Nation thanks Senator Inhofe for his even handed treatment of our industry.

Following is the statement of Ranking Member James Inhofe (R-OK):

Regarding S. 373, which is designed to ban the import and export of certain constrictor snakes, I believe we need to follow the process already established, which allows stakeholders to have input. Commonsense reforms are needed to prevent the proliferation, importation or breeding of species that would be harmful to ecosystems or human health and safety. We are setting a dangerous precedent of continuing to address these species outside of normal agency channels. Although I will not be offering an amendment today, I will support efforts on the floor to mitigate the negative effects to those snake owners and breeders who legally acquired their snakes, but through no fault of their own now find that their property is worth nothing.

S373 has been amended to include ONLY:

Python molurus
Broghammeras reticulatus
Python sebae
Python natalensis
Boa constrictor
Eunectes notaeus
Eunectes deschauenseei
Eunectes murinus
Eunectes beniensis

If you click the link, you will see a "Contact Bill" link at the top of the page. How about letting Bill know what we think of his efforts to kill our pets and destroy an entire industry, and about his association with a radical animal rights group that is committed to ending all animal use/ownership?

pitbulllady

thanks for the idea. i had to address him personally. sent this a few seconds ago.

It's nice to see that you are more then willing to toss away the income of a portion of our countries citizens, along with their rights for what i am sure is your own personal gain. It would be nice to see a politician who is " FOR THE PEOPLE " as how i was brought up being told it was supposed to be, but instead you appear to be yet another puppet for fascist lobbyist groups. A portion of the population does not believe or support this bill. Should this pass i will do my best to campaign and contact any in your state who would appose and suggest they voice their disapproval by voting against you in the next election.
sincerely: D Thomas.

I don't know about you guys but I fully support this bill... Everyone knows that pythons are vicious, blood thirsty animals that would swallow you whole as soon as look at you! Why anyone would keep these monsters as pets is beyond my imagination. Pythons should not only be banned as pets, but exterminated the world over. I'm going to contact Bill so I can congratulate him on what is obviously one of the most important proposals in the history of lawmaking. Then I am going to organize a group of dedicated Supporters of this bill to do our part to rid the world of these obscenely dangerous animals! Your children will thank us when they grow up without being eaten by a murderous python. :iagree:

Opposed!!!!! This bill makes me want to throw up. It really does and worries me horribly. I love my snakes. When people ask me why I have them I tell them what other animal can you get in TONS of different colors, sizes, and such. Not to mention they are just beautiful!!!!!!! to look at in a well put together vivarium and such! I really hope this does not pass!!!!!

Hey bro, listen to what you are saying. You want to exterminate a reptile in its entirety from this earth? When you said, "Pythons should not only be banned as pets, but exterminated the world over", I am assuming you meant to type, “all over the world." You're preaching to the wrong choir man. Every member of this forum supports reptiles of all shapes and sizes. Try to support our community. Before you contact Florida's Senator Bill Nelson you may to reread your letter or he may not understand the point you are trying to get across, just an idea.

On a lighter note, I opposed the bill. It’s up to 596 of online users support the bill! Keep up the good work everyone! Remember facebook and myspace are free tools we can use to help make this bill more visible.

I voted today, in opposition of course. A point to note: It really shouldn't matter if the bill directly affects the species that you own or not. This is just another step in the "divide and conquer" tactic the bureaucrats have used for years. Think about it...if you don't step up and fight this alongside the ones of us that this does affect, who will be around to fight any new legislation that will impact you personally? UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.

Apparently you didn't detect the note of sarcasm in that post...

This bill is completely unnecessary. It is obvious that the only reason this bill was proposed is for the personal gain of a few politicians. In a perfect world, politicians that write bills like this would be immediately removed from office (and possibly stoned for taking advantage of the legal system), but we don't live in a perfect world.

Opposed!

If people keep going to this site and opposing, there's a battle royale ranking system. It's currently at #33. If we can somehow get it to #1 it'll definitly get some kind of attention!

This bill really needs more exposure in order to get attention. I am sending the following letter to several high exposure reptile and supply companies in hopes that they will post some information on their website as well as the link to Opencongress.org. I urge everyone else who feels strongly about this bill to do the same.

GET THE WORD OUT!
Forum posts are not enough!

My letter:

" Hello, my name is Ehren Bentz, I have been a reptile enthusiast and breeder for several years. I am sending this email to you because of your high exposure within the reptile-keeping community. If you are not aware, there is a bill being proposed by Florida senator Bill Nelson that would place all species of Python on the "Injurious Animal" list. This bill would result in a ban in sale and ownership of these animals. This Bill would destroy an industry and the livelihood of many people who responsibly keep and breed reptiles.

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-s373/actions_votes

This website contains information on the bill as well as an unofficial voting system. That would give the government an impression of the amount public support this bill is receiving. Right now there are 12 votes in support and 606 votes in opposition of S.373, but we need the opposing votes to be even more numerous if this bill is to get any attention.

It would be beneficial to you and many others in the reptile industry if you posted a short article on your website as well as the link to Opencongress.org where reptile lovers may vote on the bill.

Thank you for your time.
-Ehren Bentz"
