    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Can anyone here answer some snake breeding questions?

I suppose it would help to start off by asking some specific questions you have, so people can help respond to it. What is on your mind? Best questions to get answers to are both specific & short. Welcome to Fauna.

Well ill go ahead and ask a question, was gonna make my own thread but i might as well get this one rolling.

Should we put the males in the girls tubs, or the girls in with the males? Does it matter? Anyone try both and have different results?
 
i don't think it matters, but i always put the males in the females' tub because they generally have a bigger tub.

Personally I prefer to move the males into the females tub. Reasoning is I don't want to be moving the females around a lot the further along they get. Not sure if it really matters that much, but if you think about it a pregnant woman is not supposed to be out doing a lot of moving around when she gets further along in her term. (Just my way of thinking)
 
Thats how i was thinking, it rained hard here early this morning and ive heard of people having some good results with rain so i put my male in with my girl last nite. She also has been refusing food all month. This looks like its gonna be my only pairing this year, so wish me luck. :D

Nother question. From a girl whos 1500g, how many eggs should I expect? Im guessing anywhere from 5-8. Am i being a bit too hopeful?
 
Oh and if my male is in shed would it matter or should i just pull him out and wait til hes looking his best?
 
Females can be picky critters, I'm sure some people successfully move females but that's not the norm and not how I'd do it.

Some males will breed while in shed no problem but I try to let them rest during shed and then offer food after shed and then back to work.
It's also not a bad idea for the male to get that extra rest in, especially if he's breeding multiple females.
 
I agree with everything that has been said.

1. I move males to female cages, not the reverse.
2. From 1500g females I gotten 3-6 eggs. I have 8 eggs in incubation right now, but from a 3000g female. I have heard of all kinds of different success, but that has been my experience.
3. I usually will not put males in with females that are about to shed.
 
I move males to females as well. I dunno about rain but I guess that makes sense. If my boy is gonna shed I let him do it before I put him in with a girl. Doesnt really seem like the men are in the mood when they are itchy from their skin. I sure know I wouldnt be!
 
I put the males in with the females as well. As for the rain, that would make sense that both male and female would be in the mood. At least to me. Only cause ..... Well let's just say I LOVE the rain! :rofl:

Made me test this theory. Every time it rains ill do my best to check and see if they're breeding!!
 
I also put males in with females, and I don't care if he's in shed or not. Even my males in shed will lock up if they're in the mood.

Regarding rain - it's not the rain that puts them in the mood, it's believed that it's the change in barometric pressure that is the trigger. Any time there's a weather system that rolls in, I get the boys in with their girls ahead of its arrival. It's like putting on Barry White for snakes!

My thoughts exactly, so now all I have to do it hope for a hurricane and that'll put my man into a heated frenzy and hopefully he'll get my neighbors snakes prego via psychic links. :rofl: Its nice to dream aint it.
 
I do move my males, that started simply because I have a girl "Cybil" who has earned her name by being nice one second and a pyscho B**#@ the next. Plus I felt it better not to stress the ladies later on by moving them. As I understand it from reading and trying it this past season with 3 males, it is the pressure change that affects them and has far better results before the rain even comes. The best luck was about 6 hours before a large storm rolls in I would pair, they locked everytime. In all fairness the spider would lock a paper towel roll if he was in with it. The YB male I tested with this locked a total of 6 observed times and 4 were "as the weather changed" The pastel male's heart wasn't into it and he refused to be on the same side of the tub as a female regardless of the weather, oh well maybe next year.
