    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello,

I'm new. I got 4 venus fly traps, 1 sundue and 20 baby fly traps ( I grew them from seeds).

I also have 40 other seeds planted.

All my plants are growing very good. :)

Can I feed my little pets small and large black ants that I find outside?

Are flies better than ants for my little pets?

All 3 are a good source of nutrition for your plants. Flys pose no harm to the plants but as stated by others, crickets and ants can be quite harmful. I feed mine big black army ants that I find on my porch. You have to stun them first by flicking them HARD or by running them under HOT water. The hot water method seems to work best. It almost kills them but not close enough to stop them from curling up a bit and flailing around. Crickets are pretty harmless after the hot water method too.

Just so you know, when feeding crickets it does take much longer for the plant to break the cricket down and digest it. I have even seen cricket body shells leftover when the trap opens back up.

No I haven't tried crickets yet.

But my pet plants eat the free ants I find outside.

update from a friend who breeds flytraps,

ants are not a good thing! they are acidic and will cause the plant harm.

crickets and wigless fruit flies are great he says

each arm is good to eat only 10 meals on avg.
 
Although I have never noticed anything harmful to the plants. I suppose I should stop feeding the ants I find on my porch. Ants are too acidic. :rofl: I have to admit it never would have crossed my mind............

I know I can get crickets at the pet store. but where can I get wigless fruit flies?
