In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Just thought I would start a Candoia thread.

This is for any and all Candoia enthusiasts to post anything Candoia related. Pictures, information, ideas, experiences, questions. Don't have mine yet but they will be arriving on Tuesday.

I will start off by asking, whats preferable for these guys belly or back heat?
Should younger ones (under a year) be kept at the same temp as adults or slightly cooler.

Hay gals hope to hear from you soon. I'm in that holly cow what have I gotten into faze(they will be my first boa). After the drooling I gotta have em faze. I'm sure once I receive them I will be totally stocked. I am already getting their tubs set up. I purchased 2 CBB female paulsoni born on 7-30-09. so 6 months old and small, feeding on pinkies.

Hi Zach,

Congratulations , sound like a good choice - pictures as soon as possible please!

I can't tell you much about heat pads, but I can tell you the conditions in their native habitat -paulsoni wont be so different from bibroni.

Summer daytime temps here don't reach much higher than 32oC / 33oC (90oF) and are more usually around 28 - 30 (82 - 86). Winter nighttime can drop to 18 -19oC (64 -66oF), daytime winter more normally around 25oC (77oF). It's VERY humid, and most of the wild ones I have seen have been found near running water (small creeks etc) so I suggest high humidity.

Large water bowl for bathing, high branches for climbing, small ground hides for hiding... and you should be set. Bibroni are largely nocturnal, become active in the early evening and night - not sure about paulsoni.

And (and I'm certain to get dumped on about this) mine are SOCIABLE. They'll always hang out in a tangle, 2 or 3 to a hide, no matter how many exactly similar hides there are.

Hope you enjoy them!

Here is the progression of set ups I've had my Candoia bibroni bibroni in. Remember I am in their native country, so there is no heating or misting used - just open to the natural conditions (make it a LOT easier). I have added an under-belly heating pad on very cold winter nights (when it drops to 65oF lol :D), and they like to cuddle it.

I do not keep mine in plastic tubs - I prefer aquarium style tanks, and (against most of what seems to be done by most keepers) I keep multiple snakes together, as do most of the other people I know here who keep them. Part of the reason I do this is that I find these snakes very active (particularly in the evening) - they like to roam their tank and climb branches at night, and are often in different hides every morning. Also they really do seem sociable and genuinely prefer to sleep in a bundle with each other - I'll post again about that.

So far, no problems, but I take many precautions to avoid the issues seen as a negative of housing multiple snakes in one tank:
I DO NOT feed the snakes in their tank - they are removed to a plastic feeding tub every time, and fed alone, to remove the risk of them biting the same prey animal.
I DO NOT regularly add or remove snakes to my collection - I started with 2, added a third after a year, then left them alone for 2 years. I had a breeding loan female for a month this year, and then last month I added a collection of 5 more (see later). Each time I have added snakes they have been ones I have personally been in contact with, from owners I know well, so they have effectively been in quarantine for many months or years.
I DO offer multiple hides of a variety of sizes so that they can all find whatever shelter suits them.

I have also had to be somewhat flexible and experimental, as I am not in a place with herpetology supplies:

Tank 1 was a cracked plastic fish aquarium and it was great for 2 and then 3 neonates until they were about 60cm (2 feet) long, then it got crowded.

Tank 2 is actually a collapsible plastic /canvas portable dog kennel with zip-up mesh sides. It was GREAT for 3 males who'd never get larger than about 1m 30cm (4 feet). They'd still be in it if I hadn't got the larger females.

Tank 3 is a custom made wood/ plexiglass and mosquito netting cage made by the father of a young keeper who had 2 large and 3 small snakes in it. I have just inherited both tank and snakes, so it is currently housing 2 large and and 6 small snakes. It is VERY big - initially seemed ridiculously so, but in the evenings they do roam the whole thing, and I like to see them active. In this tank there are three climbing branches, two water bowls, and 6 hides of varying sizes.

All of them come out onto the branches in the evening. Some of them like to soak in the larger water bowl after feeding, others I never see in the water. During the day the smaller ones like to be on the ground in hides, the larger females sit up in the branches, like tree boas.

Anyway, obviously there are many ways to do this - just thought I'd share what is working for me.

Mine were always at the same temp as neonates and adults. And toilet roll inner tubes make great hides for these tiny guys at first!

And finally, a few photos of sociable snakes: These were taken in the large tank above where there is a LOT of space, and several duplicate hides and sleeping spots (which they all use at some point). And yet they prefer to cuddle up....

Two small snakes in a bamboo tube
Three small snakes under a plastic hide
Two large snakes on a branch

Thanks for all the info Helen.
did I mention it was a little C.b. australis that I met in person that got me hooked. I assume they are very similar to the C. b.b.

Got my two girls in yesterday(C.c.paulsoni) safe and sound I will post pictures when they get settled in, in a week or so. I took some pictures of their enclosures before receiving them. I will post those later today.

They are very very cool snakes. Tiny little buggers, put very calm already. one is 14 grams the other is 16 grams.

they are going to need tiny pinkies.

Congratulations!
The scales I had weren't even sensitive enough to weigh my neonates, but I'd guess they were around that when I go them. You're going to love them. Have they eaten for their original owner? Ff your pinkies are too big don't be afraid to try pinkie legs (I had to use gecko tails now and then when I couldn't get small geckos)

Pictures ASAP please!
