In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm thinking of upgrading my digital camera. I want a 6 megapixel (or maybe 8 if the price drops enough) digital SLR. Both Nikon, and Canon seem to have really good cameras and I've heard great things about both. I can't decide between the two. Any opinions? I'd also welcome any recommendations on lenses.

My bro-inlaw has the EOS Rebel (Canon), and it takes some really awesome pics! If I had the $$ I would buy one.

My first REAL camera was a Canon. The A-1 model, if I remember correctly. When it came time for a new one, I decided to go with a Nikon. Then when I wanted to go digital, all of the reviews I read pointed to the Fuji FinePix S1 Pro body able to use all of my Nikon lenses, being the best route to take. The Fuji got better reviews then Nikon's own digital body at the time. That was a couple of years ago, and Fuji now has the S3 Pro available, but I am sure Nikon has newer bodies as well. Not sure what a head to head comparison would show today.

As I learned with 35mm, no one lens can do it all. So having a camera body with interchangeable lenses is THE way to go.

Personally I like Nikon lenses a LOT. So anything I do involving photography will have to work around my using Nikon lenses. Period.

My dad's a die hard Nikon fan and, I like the fact that Nikon makes sure that the new model cameras stay compatible with all the old Nikon lenses. I've seen some great pics from the D-70. Most of my friends, however, went with the Canon and say it's more user friendly...

I use the nikon d-70 and I love the thing! I did alot of reasearch before I bought and it all lead to the nikon. Dont always worry about mega pixles either, you should look at ccd sensor size. This is the area where the film would be exposed on a film camera. Also you have alot more capabilitys with shooting in RAW format. Do your reasearch, but I think you would be very pleased with the nikon! Also nikon is going to be realeasing the d-50 digital and the d-70s digital. Maybe wait and see if you like those. I got a killer deal on my d-70 kit from ritz camera, check them out.

Canon 20D hands down. Best camera I've ever used and it far exceeds the D70 in all reviews I've seen. Whatever you do stay away from kits that have a bunch of accessories and whatnot, it's all crap. Buy quality accessories as you need them. For example in the kit we bought we have filters that suck and cause distortion, they need to be replaced and thrown out. The bag we bought is too small, only holds the cam and stock lens, no extra lenses, so it needs to be replaced. The card reader started to seperate after a month and we had to buy a new one. The tripod is really lightweight and flimsy, not steady at all, and the clip on at the top is really sketchy. I have a link at home to a site that sells them dirt cheap, email or PM me if interested and I can send you a link when I get home (it's on my home PC).

That seems to be another great review site; I've been primarily using http://www.dpreview.com/ . I was looking at the Canon 20D the other night, right now, it seems to be the best camera out there in my price range. But, I also went back and read the reviews for the D70 and Rebel. Of the two, the D70 seems to be the better camera, I especially liked its truer to life colors. If I had to buy right now, I'd definately go with the Canon 20D, but Nikon's supposed to announce its answer to the 20D, by the end of this month so I'll probably wait until I can read a review of that one to make my decision.

I'm kind of viewing it as a life long brand comittment, so I want to make sure I'm happy. Once I start laying down money on lenses, I'll be sort of stuck...

Thanks for the heads up on the kits! There are some photo geeks at my office, they all use 35 mm Cannons so they're pushing me to go Cannon, but if Nikon's digitals do better with color...

Im sorry but the Nikon D-70 is the best in my books! I use the 70-300 lense on it though. I love the thing. I had a really bad camera before but this camera takes some SWEET pictures!! I will attach a couple that I took with it! Thanks Erik

We have a Nikon D70 arriving in a few days, already purchased a 90mm Tamron 1:1 macro lens, 800 speedflash, and a teleconverter for it. I'm anxious to see how detailed the photos turn out! :)

Dang going all out huh? LOL I really want that one but gotta save up for it. If you are going to be doing to be alot of macro work you should look at getting a flash ring

Speed!

I am getting shaky hands in my old age. Are these cameras alot faster than your average 2-$400.00 digital cameras? Is speed easy to accomplish on these, or do I have to really search for the right mode? I will use it at expos or for little gecko or turtle photography. My Sony unexpectedly really sucks!

A flash ring sometimes makes the subject look too unnatural. It removes all shadows, which in live animal shots sometimes doesn't work well. The ring light is most often used for medical documentation of technical photos where every detail needs to be displayed without anything being obscured by shadows.

I had one for a while, but found I didn't like the results from it and sold it.

But your tastes may be different from mine.

I have a Canon Powershot A95. When I was searching to buy a camera I really liked the Canon Rebel. But my camera takes good pictures and it's less expensive then the Nikon D70 and Canon Rebel. I've never used a Nikon so I don't know if there better than Canon. I have a Canon and I'm happy with the quality of the pictures and it's user friendly. Good luck with your new camera purchase.

I have Canon Rebal 35mm right now and a Concord EyeQ 4060 AF (4 mp). I love both cameras, but I've been looking to upgrade my digital to something with a zoom lense, I hate digital zoom, which is what my Concord has. Don't get me wrong, my Concord takes wonderful pictures, but when trying to get good pictures of anything smaller, like animals, flowers, and things of that nature, you just have to have a zoom lense to get really good shots. I've been looking at 8 mp digital cameras and had narrowed my choices down to a Nikon and Canon. Since I already have 2 lenses and a flash for my canon, I'm leaning pretty strongly towards the Canon 8mp Digital Rebal. I really like my Canon and wouldn't mind in the least have another one.

Picked up the flash ring. Works quite well even though it does not seem to support the D70. Only used the three manual settings in the back, unless I'm using it wrong. Its a SB-29s

Not really. Got one hell of a deal on ebay for most of the stuff. Auctioning off the old sony gear to recoup some of the cost.... Also had a credit balance with cameta camera that helped too ;)
