    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

A FYI.....

I seem to get a lot of emails from members who say they are able to log in, but when they try to go to any other page on the site, they find that they are no longer logged in. Or they just keep getting bounced back to the login page after they do log in. Which, of course, means they can't post anywhere. My general response has been that it is a problem with their browser's ability to handle cookies, but that appears to be only partially accurate.

I asked my programmer about this problem, figuring he has probably had more experience with vBulletin issues then most people, and here is the response I got from him:

It is a corrupt cookie problem. This nearly always happens on IE browsers and related to browser (user end). A cookie gets corrupted and IE cant overwrite it hence problem happens. This cookie needs to be deleted manually by the user in cookie directory or all his cookies should be deleted by the user in IE/internet options/general/DELETE COOKIES.

Alternatively user can use another browser (eg. firefox) which will fix the
problem since its cookie structure is seperate from IE. If he uses IE based
browsers this method will not work as they share the same cookie directory (eg. maxthon or avant browsers) so new browser should be independant from IE completely like firefox, safari or mozzila browsers.

Since it is on user end, there is nothing you can do.

That might be the case, but it did not do this on the old server. I can be on the site and not log out and it is like it times out. I find myself needing to login time after time, if it is a IE problem, why was it different before?

If it were the server, then it would likely happen to everyone. Which certainly is NOT the case. I believe I am on here more than most people, and I have NEVER had it time out on me.

There are all kinds of PCs out there accessing this site, with all sorts of levels of updates and software versions for not only their brower but the operating system as well. I'm sure there is a common cause somewhere, but I'm certainly not going to try to figure out that one.

Bobby, I don't know if this will help, but you can add the site as a 'Trusted Site' in your IE Tools -Internet Options. Hit the security tab when you open it, and click the 'Trusted Sites' icon, then hit the 'Sites' button just below and to the right of it. 'www.faunaclassifieds.com' should show up in the field at the top of the new window, just hit the 'add site' button. Also, uncheck the 'require server verification.....' box.

Adding as trusted site hasn't helped, but I ran across a "fix" so to speak by accident. Typically I would log in, be welcomed, and bam would get booted back to the login screen, or I could see that my user CP, etc. didn't pull up, so couldn't post, no matter how many times I tried logging in. This happened whether I was on IE7, IE8, or Firefox.

One night I typed in my user name and password correctly the first time, was apparently logged in, but not...then in disgust I banged out the correct user name the second time, but muffed up the password. To my surprise it brought up my user bar and I was now logged in and able to post, etc. Seems to work for me if I try to login correctly the first time, then screw up the password on the second attempt, and for whatever reason I'm good after that.

Check the URL bar when that happens to make sure the URL has the "http://www.faunaclassifieds.com...." instead of "http://faunaclassifieds.com....". I've seen this cause some odd problems on some other sites...

I've seen that happen to on other sites, and I double checked that to, but in this case it still wouldn't keep me logged in even if it was www. Might work for others, but as for me, I'm having to fudge my second login attempt, but it works like a charm every time. Almost like the system is saying "No this is your account over here". In lieu of further headaches trying to research the cause, I'm calling it a win that I figured out some way to stay logged in.

Mine must have gremlins.. or something.........

I've tried everything.. [ except firefox.. because the last time it was my default I managed to 'delete' ALL pictures on the classifieds.. trying to find how to post pics on each ad. header - I've figured that one out finally ].. and still have to LOGIN whenever I leave the site and come back - on some things!!! I've tried to fool the LOGIN system.. made FAUNA secure.. nothing in my cookie jar...... what next???

It says 'You must not be.... ' etc. and I can post an ad. anyway.

Who out there is smarter than me.. or should I say.. anyone dumber than me?

NOW I CAN'T "POST" WITHOUT DOING THE LOGIN!

Where you log in... there should be a little box that says something along the lines of 'remember me' or 'stay logged in' or something like that. Make sure it is checked before you click the login button.

Requested NEW password

Gave it a try.. even made the old "password change" request.. entered new password.. checked REMBER.. got logged in! Left.. checked for email and clicked the short-cut link................... "Hello, Either you aren't....... "

I'll try saving the page/link in my Favorites.. see if that could be it..

I just made firefox my default.. closed out after saving page/link to favorites. Clicked on 'new' link using firefox ---- I'm in!!!.. NOW how do I restore all of the pics, etc. on the "header" ads? I did something a few days ago trying to place pics onto the "header" ad.. but deleted ALL of them.

I can open IE and click on the V to the right of the address to view 'browsing history" and then can click on the 'classifieds' title and I'm logged in! - ALL pics, etc.!

When I then save to favorites to create a 'short-cut' link it creates a firefox link... now I have to figure out how to make IE my default. Anybody know?

Thanks BIG and Wolf

when your in IE... click on Tools at the top. Select 'internet options' at the bottom of the list. Click on tab 'programs'.... Select IE as your default web browser.

Henry Ford was considered an idiot.. apparently didn't act like he knew what planet he was on and the news media said so. It finally got to the point that ole Hank got fed up and sued them for liable!

To prove their point the 'media' lawyers asked ridiculous questions.. "How many men came back from the war of 1812?"

Henry said "Not sure.. but a lot less than went out!" The entire courtroom lost it. He continued.. "Why should I be bothered with all of this info?.. when if you look at my desk there are a row of buttons.. each to a dept. with an answer I want."

You don't have to know many answers.. just know where to find them.

Thanks again.. BIG and Wolf..

I just had this problem happen myself with another vBulletin site I frequent. The trick is to find the location where Windows stores your cookie information. For Win7, they are located at C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies. Simply delete any entry with "FaunaClassifieds in the file name and that should do it. When you come back to this site and log in, the cookie information should be stored correctly so you can navigate the site while logged in.

I'm in the newest version of Firefox, and this happens to me pretty much every time.
I've tried to fix it, yet nothing really works.
It's most likely my settings, so I'll deal with the minor annoyance.

I had the problem with Firefox a while back. Turned out to be a a corruption of the file "cookies.sqlite"
This caused it to not store cookies beyond the current session.

I located the file and renamed it to cookies.temp, which forced firefox to recreate the file when I launched it again and it solved the problem.

I am oneof the lucky few I guess never hada long lasting issue with IE and loggin in ( only once when power failed and I had to relog into every site I visit . ) I most the time have it set to remember the user name then I just add password .

I've just started to have this very problem when I access the site on my Kindle Fire - Don't have any problems on my PC or Laptop.... and I am struggling to see how I can fix it on the Kindle which doesn't have the options you see on Firefox etc.

Ticking "remember me" doesn't make any difference...
