I know they say don't count your chickens before they hatch, but these aren't your everyday chickens - or I guess turkeys is a little better description.
We'll soon be introducing my male cassowary to my friend's female and hoping for fertile eggs. If I'm able to produce enough to have any to spare, I will be making them available to qualified keepers/institutions.
Here are the prospective parents (male on left, female on right):
By no means is it certain that I'll be producing chicks, but I'm posting this ad as a sort of heads up. I've compiled a notification list for people who want to be notified if/when I begin getting chicks. There is no charge to be added to this list, simply e-mail or call if you wish to be on it.
The chicks will be $2500 for males, $2700 for females, or $5,000 per pair. They will be well started and DNA sexed before leaving here. Unfortunately, they will all be related. Shipping will be available through Delta for the usual fees, though local pickup or delivery will be preferable due to the fragility of the chicks.
Any infertile eggs will be cleaned out and the shells will be available for purchase. They will be $100 each, less with quantity.
For more information or to be added to the list, e-mail [email protected] or call 479-477-0434.
