In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Central American Boa - Need Suggestions

Update :

I have ordered some Flexwatt, and a rheostat.

I also have set up an appointment for him with a Vet by the name of Dr. Wade from the "Broadway Clinic" who I've heard is pretty good, And I will be getting a fecal exam done with some other tests as well. The appointment is on this Tuesday, and I will update the topic following the appointment.

Thanks for your fantastic advice. Some very knowledgeable people on these forums.

Zack.

Make sure you play with the rheostat for a while before placing the critter in. Get the temps right, and check them frequently even afterwards. Some do fine for years, others are a bit unreliable.

Now your talkin!! I switched to Flexxwatt awhile back and use it with a Ranco temp controllers and have had no problems with that setup. I agree with Rick, make sure you test the cage out without the snake before you put him in there. If you don't already have one, I suggest getting a temp gun so you can shoot the temps in the cage, in different areas. They are also great for shooting your snake's actual body temp. I put off buying a temp gun for a long time but after I got it, I wondered how I had lived without it.

Just another update.

The vet does believe HE is a Columbian Redtail.

I had a blood test done on him, and from first looking at his blood, she believes he is Anemic, after that she suggested that I let her give him a shot of Iron, and a shot of Vitamin B12.

I'm still waiting on the actual results of the blood test, and I should know those details by tomorrow.

He is underweight , around 500kg and he should gain around 2lbs to be the right size for his length and age, which she thinks is around 5.

She said that I should be giving him Large / Jumbo rats, as much as twice a week for around 2 months.

As for the fecal test, I wasn't able to get one, because she couldn't get any stool out of him, and he had gone earlier in the week, so next time he goes I'll bring it in.

Today's visit set me back around $200 :(

Is there anything else I should know from this ?

As much as I always say follow the vets orders, I feel the feeding schedule will likely cause more problems if you follow it. But i wouldn't mind being wrong here.

Just make sure you keep him really warm if you are gonna follow frequent feeding for a while.
