In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Before I left on a trip last week, I asked my programmer to make a change to the classifieds ads highlighting function to make the highlights much more eye catching. I thought just highlighting the topic line text could be improved a bit, so this is the result...

Let me know what you think about it...

Ahh, so that explains the colors, I was wondering what was up. Personally, I like it! Makes ads stand out more!

I think it's a little too bright, just being honest with you. I liked the old way better.

Too much, IMO. It isn't "bad"; but in the sections that the feature is heavily utilized, it's just a mixture of color groups....not so much of a highlighting (almost an assault, lol)

Is there a way to highlight the ads when one uses the "New Posts" or "Today's Posts"? I'm thinking no but that would actually be really cool if there was.

The seller side of me thought about that at one time, as well.....but then another side decided that I didn't want to see all the highlights when I was reviewing posts that way.

Point taken about the brightness of the colors.....

I am checking with my programmer to see if he can implement some sort of "color picker" option, so members can select what color they want the highlight to be from a broad range of options. But quite honestly, my bet will be that most sellers will opt for the brightest colors anyway.....

Thats ok once everyone starts using the bright colors someone will start using the darker ones to stand out from previously stated brighter ones. As long as there is orange Im happy. :D But the new colors do tend to make the scanning of titles more entertaining. I dunno why, maybe Im just attracted to bright pretty colors, but I tend to read the titles more smoothly when theres a Skittles factory of highlighted ads.

As long as we're talking about colors, and you mentioned some sort of color picker option -
I'd still pay extra for my own color

okay, so maybe not THAT much extra....but, I've got what I consider a reasonable and workable range in mind

If my opinion counts any, I like the color change. I noticed something different about it right off & I agree with rcpries3. The skittles factory array of colors is very eye catching & I approved 100%!!

I assume you are referring to a color that would be reserved for you only. Honestly, I don't see that happening just because of the complexity it would involve in doing something like that. Yeah, I know there are over 16.7 million possible colors using 8 bit values for RGB, but you couldn't just reserve one color (for instance #995511) because anyone using values only slightly different in hex codes (such as #995510 and #995512) would look identical to most people. So a choice would have to be made of the RANGE of values reserved in order to block others from using very similar colors. And that would have to all be done programmatically as I sure as heck wouldn't want to do it manually.

In any event, the color picker will (if my programmer can easily implement it) provide a lot more choices for colors, but they won't be reserved once someone selects the color they prefer. Of course, I fully expect some people to select a color that will make their text unreadable as a result, but that will be something they need to deal with.

I figured it was one of those more trouble than it's worth kind of ideas; but the subject came up before, so I figured I'd toss it back out there.

If some sort of color selector happens, I'll just get one as close to moderator blue as I can....and delete the ads of any non-mod that uses it (YES - THAT WAS A JOKE)

I definitely like the new highlight feature. It's makes the classifieds a "brighter" place. When just the title was highlighted in a box it was quite annoying.

And since this is the topic, I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem, but whenever there is a highlighted ad, no matter how many times I view the ad, it still reads as an unread ad. So I never know when any new posts are made because it registers that ad as the newest one. That is probably the ONLY thing i dont like about the highlight feature.

A color selector would be nice, give people a more personalized ad. With the problem of people using a color that would make their text disappear, like highlighting in black, (which is the opposite of highlighting right?) Why not incorporate something that if you choose a dark color highlight, the program would also choose a light colored text so that problem disappears..of course that probably wouldn't be easy to create, so I guess people would just have to use common sense.

Just thought I'd throw my $0.02 in the jar.

I've never noticed that to be the case....maybe the highlighted ads you are looking at just get bumped a lot, keeping them at/near the top?

Nahh, that's not it, because there are never any ads above them. Lately there have been a few new posts that cause the same problem. Maybe its just my phone and computer that are the problem, but I find it hard to believe that two separate devices are having the same issue.
