In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So, there is a guy who sells some pretty decent stuff from what I can tell, but he consistently advertises his snakes for $100 more on fauna than he does on kingsnake. I know he is entitled to charge what he wants, but he is not a paying member, post for free and charges more for those of us on here.

I called him on it once and he tried to say it was accident but continues to do it. It surely can't be an accident all the time.

What do you guys think about this?

I know of one person that does that regularly...it's one of the reasons I won't buy from him.

You've piqued my curiosity on who this person is, but in any case, If I were to encounter the same situation, I would take that person off of my 'buy from' list too.

I don't know that it is appropriate to say names since technically they have not done "bad" deals, but I really wish it was.

I have done that once or twice but it is not a 100 bucks I mess up and may put 400 instead of 450 lol.

But I also would charge the lesser price to whomever bought it.

I know some that advertise for one price but raise the price at shows too.

Could have been a change of mind between sites, but chances are he's hoping to hook someone on here for more than on the other site. Maybe he's trying to hook both at once to get more cash without delivering the goods? Maybe it really was an accident? Just keep on eye on him, and let us know if he does anything else fishy.

I don't know that it is appropriate to say names since technically they have not done "bad" deals, but I don't think that there are not too many people that are only registered members selling decent stuff with over 200 post.

I agree that this is not the place to name names, but <shakes head and looks again> what did you say??

Yea Harald, I got my words twisted up there. So I just edited post #5

Cody, I am pretty confident that this guy does deliver the goods - almost certain, but I am also confident that it is not really an accident as I caught multiple ads like that today. Thanks to time stamps on ads, I was able to watch him post one price on kingsnake and then an hour later post a price of $100 more on here - multiple times after I asked him about it.

I was just teasing...enough people feel the need to poke me when I do that sort of thing, lol.

Back to the topic, your person isn't the one I was thinking of...I haven't really been checking ads much lately.

Please PM me the name of the person. I want to know who it is.....

FWIW, Eric, had I seen that interaction before the ad was deleted, I would have given you at least a warning for disrupting the classifieds. The ads aren't left open to posts so people can openly criticize a seller's pricing - that should have been done in private.

I understand the "so what". Its business he should get what he can - right.

The thing for me is about 25% of my reptile transactions are done online. I really value a classified forum setup where I can check out who I'm dealing with, where they get rated, and where they can be scrutinized.

I question someone who tries to charge more under those circumstances. It makes me wonder if they are trying to redirect people from that type of environment. It makes me just uncomfortable enough not to deal with them and to put this out there with the suggestion that people might check to see if the people with whom they are dealing are doing the same type of thing and then to suggest that they should ask why?

Honestly though, if he hadn't lied to me when I asked him about it, I would have never posted anything.

Harald, your right.

My first post in the classifieds section was questionable, and the rest were related more to what I felt like was an evasive perhaps dishonest answer to my question than to the ad. I did forgo continued posting and actually intended to go back and delete my post prior to the time that the ad was deleted.

It still bothered me though. Thats why I moved it here and made it more discreet.

BTW - please feel encouraged to make fun of my grammatical errors!

I dunno, been thinking about it, and find myself mildly unsettled by it, but not sure why. Nor can I see anything that I should DO about it that wouldn't come across as some sort of price fixing or other underhanded type of market manipulation.

So what exactly is unsettling about this to you? What do you feel would be the goal of someone doing this if in fact it is intentional and not an oversight?

Heck, I've been at shows pricing animals and I might have the same type of animal priced differently at one end of my tables then at the other end. Nothing conspiratorial about it, I just forgot what I priced them at when I started, or perhaps just thought differently about the price I wanted when I came to the second batch.

Pretty much if you come to the conclusion that someone can sell whatever they want for whatever price they want, that pretty much goes hand in glove by saying they can sell whatever they want for whatever price they want and in whatever avenue they choose for selling it. :shrug01:

I'm not really suggesting that fauna should do anything about it. I don't like it and wondered how others would choose to act in such a situation.

On a personal level won't be doing business with people who regularly charge more on any site (fauna or otherwise) that allows for a much more transparent buying/selling experience.

It was/is not an accident that he is doing this. He does it continuously.

Yeah, but I'd make sure all communication was done on Fauna to remind him of what site sold that particular animal.

Well, if this person has ads on kingsnake and the OP of the thread saw the ads there then... maybe he sometimes buys animals off kingsnake too, and not always Fauna!
