In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Cheers from NY!

Hey guys what's up? The name is Dan and I've finally signed up to Fauna...I don't know why I haven't yet but better late than never.
Anyway, a few things about me - I've been raising and keeping reptiles as long as I could remember, but officially let's just say around 14 years ;) I've kept everything from colubrids to pit-vipers, geckos to crocodylians. I've also had some experience with birds of prey, large cats, bears and even chimpanzees.

I'm a New York State reptile educator and actively do animal education presentations for schools, museums, and other public events (including birthday parties!). I'm working on my BS in Biology at SUNY Albany and have an AS in Environmental Science.

My main herp interests include large constrictors, Crotalids and Viperids and of course, crocodylians. But I'm very, VERY prone to NY species, like my beloved North American Wood turtles <3

My current collection is thus:
1.0 Alligator mississippiensis, 1.0 Crocodylus niloticus, 4.4 Python reticulatus (assorted morphs), 1.0 Eunectes murinus, 1.0 Python sebae, 1.2 Python molurus bivittatus (assorted morphs), 2.0 Glyptemys insculpta, 3.0 Chelydra serpentina, 1.0 Apalone ferox, 1.0 Elaphe obsoleta, 1.0 Crotalus oreganus helleri, 0.1 Crotalus atrox, 0.0.1 Atheris squamigera

I will be letting go of a few of my larger constrictors just to ease the pain on my wallet as I commute to school 100 miles per day (that got old fast). I'm sure I'll post some ads soon enough.

Cheers!

Yes, NY is quite a large state, but it's a good one (despite our high taxes ;)

Good to see some NY herpers...doesn't seem to be many of us!

Oh and Rachel, I'm in Clifton Park for shows pretty often. Northern Lights is a nice venue. It's just a little drive up the River

Welcome to the forum. You do a lot to help our great hobby. Look forward to hearing more about your collection.

Hey Dan!

Wow, Saugerties. I grew up in your neck of the woods just outside of Kingston in a little town called Hurley. I was just visiting the Saugerties lighthouse two weeks ago over Christmas break! Small world!

I dunno if you're into birds at all, but the Ulster/Dutchess Christmas Bird Count will be on December 26th next year. This year was the count's debut and it was a ton of fun... 74 species and probably about 20-30 thousand individual birds counted. I would normally offer to go herping but the herps are kinda scarce when I'm home in December!

Also, if you're up in the Albany area that frequently, you should go visit the Snowy Owls that have been seen in Rotterdam. I know one was injured and rescued but the other might still be there.

If you're not into birds you should TOTALLY get into them. They're just feathered, warm blooded reptiles after all! :) 'Course, I'm biased.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words.

Rachel, CP is about an hour drive, maybe a bit less if ya do 85 on I87 haha.

Snow, I am very into birds - and all animals really. After I finish up this degree I'll be going to grad school to work on a Ph. D in Zoology (or so the plan is haha). But some of the people I associate with are big ornithologists. One of my best friends (who oddly enough was born on the same day, rooms across from each other and we both share the same name) is working on his masters in Geology and his father and older brother both own raptors, do education shows and practice falconry.
I'm also friends with Peter Capainolo from the American Museum of Natural History. We get into some really serious conversations about lots of things, many of which are bird related.
So my point is, I'm very into birds. Right now all the land I have is "stored" for the crocodylians or else I would have already been working on my falconry licensing for NY and other permits. Golden eagles are my favorite species and I can never get enough of them. We also watch the Bald eagles on the Hudson while we fish for striper...so great. Anyway I'm rambling but yes, birds are awesome. I do consider them extant dinosaurs and always look at them with a sense of awe. And on a side note I used to own a Blue and Gold Macaw and really would like to get Hyacinth at some point in the future. Love 'em
