I adopted a CWD with Metabolic Bone Disorder from my work [big pet store] and I have the oral calcium supplement from the vet and instructions for that, but the vet doesn't have rec's for lighting other than to go high UVB, above what most CWDs need.
I already have a Repti Glo 10.0 bulb that I am using [supposedly high UVB output,] I can get him a 2.0 bulb to go with it, or I can get an Exo Terra Solar Glo to take over as a full spectrum light/heat source.
I am currently using a 75 watt ceramic heat emitter to keep the terrarium at a constant 80 next to the lid, cooler down below, just the way the vet recommended, but I can easily program it in to turn on only at night, and the light will remain on the timer for his daytime photoperiod.
The other issue I have is that he doesn't seem to know how to locate his food dish, so I have to hand feed him mealies. It's trying at times, because I worry that he's not eating quite enough, maybe 3 of the smaller mealies every other day.
I am new to CWD's, I previously only have experience with Leopard Geckos, healthy ones with minor weight issues and refusing to eat for months at the worst. If you have any tips or tricks to help Puff [yes, The Magic Dragon] please let me know. He is currently being treated with Repashy RescueCal [vet apparently likes the stuff because there's no sugar, yay] and Reptaid for bacterial/parasites, as well as terramycin to the eye as needed. Little guy has had it tough. He is less than 3 inches snout to vent, and is between 8-10 months old, so he is very obviously undersize, but he doesn't have any trouble walking, running, jumping and flying off my desk, or climbing and hanging on to just about anything. He also enjoys hanging outside in his tote and longs walks on the beach at sunset
Any info you guys have on lighting and tips/tricks to helping with his eating or MBD I would be grateful. Ready, steady, go.
