• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information. The only time any request for payment is made is if you choose to opt-in for a higher membership level, and that is done SOLELY through PayPal. Anything else is coming from a source other than this site. My guess is that this is coming through Google Adsense, but when I can get someone to send me a screen shot of this sort of request, I will know more.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Info Chris and Melissa Faulkner

Here is some more . I have about 4 days worth of stuff then it judged stoped . When I tried calling the number it would just ring and ring no voicemail

Lastly, did you get the impression, despite his "deep southern accent" that he was a fluent English speaker rather than a foreign scammer with broken English?

Thanks for posting the text messages Brandon. Can you please give me your thoughts on the above question. Thanks

He spoke clear English nothing that would suspect me of a foreigner. I ask him why he was getting rid of the animal . He said he needed to make room because he breeds croc monitors.

Thank you.
Even though you sent the money "family & friends" with Paypal, have you inquired with them about a refund?

Yes , I called multiple times explaining that I really didn’t know the difference. I assumed friends and family didn’t have the fees that’s it . PayPal said because it was friend and family it didn’t qualify for protection

So many red flags...
Sorry for your loss, the world appears to be getting more cruel and depraved by the minute.
If these scammers put as much effort into real breeding and sales as they did scamming I am sure they would still do very well and be a respected helpful part of our community.

I believe I've been screwed by them as well
Sorry to hear. Please post as much information as you can, the more the better. Contact info, details, screen shots, etc. Even if you think it means nothing, it very well could be something important.

How did they contact you?
WHY did they contact you?
Where did you send money to?
Did they contact you directly on Fauna?
Etc.

I believe I was just scammed by him as well. How do we keep these people off this site? For me, I dealt with the name Jeremy Thompson, but Melissa Faulkner was who the payment went to.

As a site we can enforce the site rules.
As a member of the site, individuals can take precautions to protect themselves as they do online purchases. This is true for any online purchases, not just here on Fauna.

I see that 'you' posted your phone number in an ad.
This particular scammer sits and waits for members new and old to post their personal information. They in turn contact you directly based on your 'exposed' phone number or email address. In many cases the scammers are not even members of Fauna, they are simply viewing the site as a 'guest'.

Fauna offers you the ability to use it's internal: Private Message system.
Fauna offers you the ability to use the Board of Inquiry to research sellers 'before' you send them your money.
Fauna can not, nor does it attempt to replace good ol' fashioned common sense and self preservation.

Board of Inquiry 'first', buy or sell 'second'.

name Jeremy Thompson, but Melissa Faulkner was who the payment went to.
Thanks for posting this.
Do you have any other information?
Phone number?
Email address?
PayPal address?
Photos?

This person is an individual, not the bogey man. Scammers always leave trails to who they are, they are not as bright as they think they are. With enough information, we CAN connect the dots and at a minimum 'personally' expose them.

Wish I'd seen this post before I was scammed by them. Mine was in response to an ad they posted. I'm sick over this.

If that had a ad on the site that should t be alllowed . You should need to be a member to be able to post . Even Craigslist you have to create a profile. Being the fact on how many member this guy or other scammers screwed over it shouldn’t be that easy to post .

I know this is 2018 and not 2010 , but there should be someone monitoring this stuff. When members don’t feel safe that when they cancel there membership. I’m looking on some post here that date back to 2010 with the name and number.

The really messed up part is this isn’t your everyday scammer . He knows about reptiles , different breeders, things to look out for . I can guarantee he is a member of this forum. He is reading all of this laughing . Something should be done and Fauna’s side . I personally emailed Fauna and got some half ass response. This hurts our hobby and the breeders who actually do this for a living and rely on sales.

Look at the bottom of this page to similar threads . I’m a new user , I don’t know what are the do’s and don’t’s . I’m use to Craigslist , to be honest not to sound stupid but, I don’t even know what B.O.I stood for.

Brandon - perhaps a breather on your part is in order.
I was willing to help you out the best I can, however, if this is your attitude, an ally in me you will no longer find. You got burned. You did this yourself. Your emotions are high and you are attempting to take it out on the only person you can put a face to. Fauna did not do this, you alone did this by not doing your due diligence. Take some responsibility for your own actions and over eagerness to find a Male Rhino Iguana that lead 'you' to make many mistakes. Other members clearly see the all the red flags you choose to ignore.

The man in the mirror is waiting for you take the blame, we at Fauna will not.
