Chuck Tornetta - Big trade deal gone south

I don't think Darin meant that the Old Timers always know what's right and pass judgement based on that knowledge. I think, and jump right in Darin if I'm wrong in my thinking, that he means there is sort of an established method to the madness here.

There are certain questions to ask in most situations that will bring to light facts or evidence that a newbie may not think of or even know to ask for. Sometimes the asking for of this information irritates people quite a lot or, in the case of the not so honest, makes them realize that there are some pretty smart people here and they are going to keep looking past the first impression of any deal gone bad.

I consider myself an oldtimer now and have seen it happen several times. A newbie, and by that I don't mean new to reptile in particular just new to Fauna, will come on and get bent out of shape when they are questioned about the facts they have presented, or not presented, as the case may be. The questioning gets pretty heavy sometimes.

Take a look at ken from elite, slamming and shouting and spouting how he's going to do this and that and protect us all. A week and a half later, after being questioned and called to the mat to come through with some of his promises, he's totally gone.

Frequently promises are made by people, they've got emails or pictures or some other evidence to prove them right. Then it's lost or misplaced or accidently deleted. If you've been reading this board for a while then you have seen it too.

It's more of a method at getting to the truth than it is an all knowing bunch. That's the take I have on it anyway.

And it's not a set in stone method, it changes with the situation and individuals involved. There aren't three magic questions you ask to get the truth. There may well be 6 or 8 different people asking questions. Then when you get all the information that they have been asking for together you see that the group really does work well.

OK, guess I might as well jump off topic as well.

Probably the most misunderstood person on this entire site is Ritchie Luna.

He is NOT a moderator here, at least not in the BOI. If anything, he is an antagonist. And that is by design.

The BOI was never created to be a nice friendly touchy feely sort of place. I set it up after someone really pissed me off by sending me a bunch of bad checks to pay for some animals they got from me. But even with that in mind, I wanted the vehicle I would use to bring this SOB to light to be a bit more moderate than just a plain old black list. I wanted to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, as well as have a place where people doing a good job can get their pat on the back as well. I chose the name carefully to reflect what I wanted it to do.

From the beginning, Ritchie Luna had a knack of digging rats out of their holes where they would try to cover over the hole with lies and red herrings. Sorry, but rats aren't nice when you yank them out of their holes, and the rat catcher cannot be nice about doing it either. No, Ritchie is not right all of the time, and he does apologize when he grabs someone mistakenly, but he is right many more times than he is wrong.

Ritchie's job here is to get to the truth. And to do what it takes in order to get there. This is a very rough job. And the way he has gone about it is typically to get a rat so mad that it will jump out of the hole to get at Ritchie's throat. Literally. In the context of this forum, what happens is that Ritchie will badger someone so bad that he/she will pound out a message in pure anger and frustration, not taking the time to check the lies they told previously nor compare notes with what their story is supposed to be.

And once they hit that SUBMIT REPLY button, their butt is then on the frying pan, in public, for everyone to see. I have seen this happen time and time again.

Now someone new coming in here is certainly going to perceive this as being VERY harsh and will likely be appalled at the way Ritchie acts. I understand that and regret that some people may have left way too soon to understand what is going on, but that's just the way it has to be on the BOI.

That, I believe, is one of the things that Darin is referring to. Someone new coming in here surely does not understand what is happening, and likely thinks things could be done a bit gentler than it appears to be.

In this particular thread, things got a bit hot. I honestly have not read all of it, nor do I intend to. But if Ritchie or anyone else spots a flaw in the story line, it is par for the course on the BOI for things to get dicey while the truth is being sought. I believe that some proof was asked for and was found lacking. I believe some people questioned some statements made here and tried their best to get at the truth. Generally, many people would rather leave here than to admit they lied in a public forum. This is to be expected, I suppose.

But just for the record, not a single soul whom tells the truth and has their facts at hand to back their statements up has a single solitary thing to fear from anyone on this board. However, everyone else had best be careful when they grab the blade to come in here and try to cut someone with their words. That blade absolutely cuts both ways, as many people have found out.

Now, can we get this thread back on topic. Please?

Per a my conversation with Jermy Stone last night I want to formally apoligize to him for my remarks about not trusting him I made earlier within this thread. I was fed some miss imformation and when I explained the whole deal to Jermy I think he was understanding of why I felt the way I and did. Had roles been reversed and he heard the same thing about myself I am sure he would have felt the same way. With that said I am going to leave it at this I think just about everything that can be said within this thread has been said. Anyone who is seriously concerned about Jermys true feeling should call him on the phone, because per my conversation with him none of what he supposidly said thats been posted thus far has been completly true. Or even better then that leave him completly alone and forget he was ever brought into this as he really has nothing to do with all of this. He was drug into this by two desperate fools who atempted to use his name as leverage, nothing more. With that being said I have nothing more to ad and will give the mic back to Richie whos questions hit the mark

I don't appreciate you saying that what I said was false. EVERYTHING I said was the truth. You obviously have some kind of hang up or something. I will call Jeremy and see if what you are saying has any truth to it. I don't know what Jeremy told you nor do I really care. All I know is what he told me.
Another thing I called Chuck and spoke with him about this animal and other things. Is there any particular reason you are telling him I am conspireing against him? Unless YOU have such evidence. Maybe you ought to keep your assumptions to yourself. After all the BOI always needs hard proof, right? So it does not need your dreamed up thoughts.
You love to pass judgement on someone and referr to them as fools. Is that by chance the reason you have the amount or warning points you have? I can hardly beleive your negative out put has any help on your business.

In responce to Dallas and Gilbert throwing his name around as leverage to back claims they had no proof to. He should not have been brought into this by Dallas nor Gilbert and I regret the remarks I made. I am publically apoligizing to Jermy and wish everyone would leave him out of this.

If I see a add on kingsnake that says Jeremy stated this animal was a possible Blizzard Boa. I turn around and call Jeremy to ask him his opinion. He tells me NO and other things. This is good homework, right??

Substantiation of facts

I enjoy reading the BOI and think it has a valuable part to play in exposing the bad guys in the industry. That having been said I think we have to be a little bit more careful about throwing out unsubstantiated facts. Just a hint of wrong doing can do a great deal to hurt a reputation. I'm thinking in particular of Jason Sweigart's comments regarding Jeremy Stone. It's nice that you printed a retraction but I'd be a little bit more careful about my facts before I branded someone a liar next time. Once an allegation is out there it's too late to take it back and a lot of people will remember the accusation and not the retraction. Just my two cents.

If the albino female that was supposed to be a coral arrived, and was not what you thought it would be, why did you not contact Chuck about it right away. Same thing with the snow? You can have a little "fact finding" time, but you should have still brought up your concern right away. Too come back after you have sold several items and state that you were ripped off, that you did not get what you were told they were worth,,,,man, that is on you! You accepted offers on the animals, and took the money, then complain, be for real. You also have ads up that mimick the verbage used in Chucks ads, stating coral pair, and possible blizzard. You cannot have it both ways. And what really makes me wonder is the fact that Chuck says the boa is sick, and you are looking for trades for the same line of boas, that you just traded away. That does not look good for you. Why would someone sell something, and then buy another one? unless it was not a "perfect" specimen?

Bottom line, would not do business with either of you....

Well I spoke with Dallas today and we worked out a deal that we both could live with. I thought......
Anyways he said he was going to ship to me on Monday but he emailed just a minute ago and said he has another wanting to pay all cash. So I'm out of the picture.

If you and he made a deal then he should stick by it. Once a deal is made a person should not take another offer on the table. Once the deal was made with you the animal(s) should have been marked as sold period. This is just another mark against Dallas in my book.
 
That was pretty much the way I was feeling. I had to do a lot to come up with doing that big of a deal but if it was meant to be then it would have worked. I try to be as understanding as possible. Oh well, that means there are other snakes out there for me now.

Maybe this is a blessing in disquise. Ifyou had done your trade with him who knows he might have been on here bashing you becuase he did not like something or changed his mind or decided to sell the animals too cheaply. I know I will never deal with him.

I had planned to stay out of this, but man I have a few questions I have to ask.

Let me first say this, I have dealt with Chuck T and spoken with him many times on the phone. I have found him to be very proffestional and a great guy to deal with. I even have one of his animals in my collection.

Let me also say I have spoken with Dallas a while back, and he seems to be a good guy on the phone and in emails.

That being said, here are my 2 cents and questions.

It was said Dallas is trying to obtain sharp strain albinos right now in trade with the animals recieved from Chuck for his sharp strain. Can this be proven, if not it is not a valid thing to say, only heresay.

Next Chuck have you got a copy of the vet report? I really hate to ask this, and man trust me I am not attacking you in any way. It does suck that you are now being asked to prove yourself on this deal, but in all fairness I think it helps your cause to reply as openly as possible. The reason I say this is look at the people starting to say the normal "I would never deal with either of you line" David Ried said it, and I have read it once or twice in this thread allready. Now if yiou are 100% correct in everything that has happened, you can change the minds of theese people and anyone else who MAY doubt you. Again it sucks you would be asked to do this, especially if you are correct in your statements, but it would help your cause.

Now for my own person opinion. I think it is far fetched to argue over this deal on Dallas' end for a couple of reasons. I dont need to rehash them, as many of us see them the same way. I do understand his frustration IF he were misled and "cheated" out of said extra money on the deal, but HE MADE THE DEAL. He also didnt reverse it. Now if as Gilbert has said, he backed out of the snow deal, he obviously has no problem changing deals or backing out, as he could have with Chuck. He could have also contacted Chuck to try and reverse the deal.

And Chuck, you should have emailed him with your concerns on the snakes health. That way you had a copy for a situation like this. I understand you had hoped to handle this yourself, but man in this day and age, cover your a$$. Thats just a bit of friendly advice.

I will close with, I have done business with and WOULD do business again with Chuck in the future. Thanks again for the boa Chuck your names still good with me.

I seen the ad myself and I believe Richie has copied and pasted the ad within this thread somehwhere but I dont have time to look. Dallas stated within that ad that he was looking to trade his snow for sharpe albinos or sell it for what ever the price was that day.
 
Well Dallas Gilbert's posting of the situation between you and he has everything to do with this thread. It shows more into how you act as a buisness person. In that situation no matter if the other guy had said early in the week that he was going to work on it before he called you back you had made a deal with Gilbert. That means the deal was done with Gilbert and you should have told the other person "sorry but the animal is no longer available" But that is not what you did is it.

I have this baby snow boa born in July 2003. He is a very exceptional animal. He is very white and does not have the yellow that most baby snows do. I am moving to FL in a couple months so i have decided to sell off some animals to pay for the trip. This guy is eating F/T pinky rats with no problem and i can email you pics of him eating with the dates from my digital camera on the pics. He is a solid animal and a great feeder. He is in perfect condition, inside and out. I am selling him for $5,000 plus shipping. Please dont email me for trades unless you have Sharp Strain Albinos. If you would like him shipped to you by US Airways delivered same day, it will cost $80. If you want him shipped overnight, next day delivery, it will cost you $50. This is a great price considering the going price for male snows is a cool $5500. The only thing that could match it would be a Leucistic.
