• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I fairly often notice someone respond to an old, old ad, and sometimes many people jump on without noticing the date. Could the classified ads be locked after 3-6 months? Sometimes it gets slightly heated as people post in trying to get a response and other people post in, look at the date numskull. I like the ability to look at old ads to find breeders even though I missed what they had. I can privately contact someone and see if they still breed that species. The forum style may prohibit this. Just my two cents

This is a topic that has been asked about many times here - if you do a search of this forum, you'll find the technical answers to this question many times over, lol. As it stands now, it is the responsibility of the seller to lock or delete their ads, and some may actually like to leave their ads open, some may forget, who knows. But I know that I wouldn't really appreciate someone locking my ad if the animals were still available, and goodness knows that the mods are busy enough without trying to take the time to go through all of the ads every day and locking those that are of a certain age.

I understand perhaps new folks that don't know the layout responding to an ad that is old, and has no "SOLD" replies...usually those are treated with more respect than calling them a numbskull. But well, one would hope that common sense would give someone the initiative to read the posts already in the ad, especially if the ad already has repeated replies stating the animals are long sold. Folks might get a bit frustrated with those. ;)

I believe that very old ads, if drug up, may be locked by mods.

One thing you may want to address though, Amanda - you are posting under an account that gives the name of Jason Fischer. If you are going to be posting, and you are an Amanda - you probably should consider making your own account.

As Cathy noted, variations of this topic have been raised multiple times. Basically - the old ads are picked up by searches & bring considerable traffic to this site (a good thing). At one point, there was a group of WS mods that volunteered to cover the ads in various sections - the guideline being that we would close any ads that were a year old, and remove attached images (to free up server space). It was a tedious chore, to say the least. Since the update, it is a bit easier...but removing the attachments still takes extra time & steps.
From a time management perspective (speaking for myself, only), I'll admit that reviewing classified ads to check the dates is a VERY low priority for me...but when I notice the old ones being dragged up, I close them. (Now that I think about it, though, I probably am due to cruise my old sections) again

Apparently this wasn't carried over after the update. I had the boa forum but I no longer have the ability to lock the threads there or in any of the other forums I was listed as a mod of.
