• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

classifieds here becoming crap?

(like that dragon for trade for leos and the person is responding to tons of ads asking for a trade)

Yeah I noticed that today. Has anyone told this guy it's annoying.

What about it is annoying? Hes just trying to trade his bearded for a leopard gecko... Mabye a good nights sleep will ease your annoyance.

Well lets take this particular situation (the beardie for the leo into play)

I think the inital ad he posted was fine, but the posting on other peoples ads asking to trade for his beardie constantly is a little over the limit. Maybe the person who starts ads can delete posts made by people? This will also help stop with people posting things for sale in others ads, degrading the person selling the items, or posting silly comments (i'll trade you my fake rubber garter snake for your 200 dollar leo) from appearing on an ad? Also with that people can then delete ads as well.

What do you think Lucille? Rich?

I'd just like to be able to delete my old ones lol! I've posted a few animals in the boa section and no matter what I do I can't delete them. I've also not been able to enter my zip code in the classified so people can know distance to me. I don't think I'm the only one with this problem since I've noticed other ads where the poster completely overwrote the entries with dashes to remove the contents. I've requested the webmaster look into these bugs or even delete the ads for me since I'm not allowed to. As a result I'm reluctant to post any new ads because it seems they'll stay here forever. Webslave, can you please look into these quirks? I'd greatly appreciate they be addressed. Thank you very much.

The zip code problem is a two-part bug. Part one is that zip codes with leading zeros will not work. Part two is that the data in the zip code database appears to be innaccurate in some instances. Part one is more easily fixable, since it is likely a simple coding error. Part two is NOT quite so easily fixed, and will likely require trying to find another zip code database that is compatible with the code and can replace the one currently in use. I have no idea how easy that will be to accomplish. They will get addressed whenever I have the time to get with the developers of the software to fix them. When you customize software, doing upgrades and bug fixes is no longer a simple matter of just overlaying newer files. Right now THIS is my own busy season with my own animals, and has priority over such issues here. I don't believe anyone will die if their zip code is not reflected accurately. If you all wish, I can just disable the zip code function completely in the classifieds.

As for ad deletions, I received complaints from people who had purchased animals and items from the classifieds, but when the deal went sour and they tried to review the ad again, it was gone. I cannot recover deleted ads. So I determined the best course of action would be to disable deletes, and have it set so that ads will automatically be deleted 6 months after they have elapsed or marked as "sold". That appeared to be the best compromise to make, under the circumstances, so that's what I decided to do.

I think some people need to learn how to ignore some things. :raspberry

Sorry, but neither my mods nor myself are going to review absolutely everything on this site. Some things just don't need worrying about, in my opinion.

Thanks for the explanation

I figured the zip code problem related to the fact that mine started with a zero. I think knowing the distance between buyers and sellers is a great feature. The thing is right now it appears I don't WANT people to know where I'm located. Some people don't even know New Hampshire's a state never the less where my town is lol.
Regarding the inability to delete ads I understand your reasoning but does an obsolete ad really need to languish for six months? I think it's a bit on the long side and wish it were considerably shorter, say 2 months at most. If someone doesn't have time to copy an ad or print out a hard copy of it in that time frame then it's their own fault. Anyway, at least I now know these things are out of my control.
