    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well I am getting a few PMs indicating some disgruntlement. So at least some members are trying to make me feel at home here..... :D
 
Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention

A while back when there were some problems here from some members with moderator status, I felt it prudent to lock down the editing and deleting capability so that things wouldn't get so out of hand if someone got it in their head to go and delete or edit out all their messages. So I put a time limit of 7 days on editing of posts made. Enough time has passed, and I think things have calmed down quite a bit (and if not, well they can just delete their messages and be done with it, I guess). That restriction has now been removed. Deletions have also been enabled in the classifieds section, but bear in mind that you may not be able to edit or delete old messages, as it seems to me there was a problem a while back that seemed to indicate that the PERMISSIONS of the thread or post are stored in the database that existed at the time the post or thread was created. At least I think that's how it works, but I haven't tested it to be certain.

So if you try to edit or delete and old message or thread, and cannot, this may very well be the reason why you cannot. And not much I can do about it, either....

Because invariably I will get the occasional wiseguy who will try to bypass the paid membership requirement by posting something in someone else's classified ad akin to "Hey, I have one available myself for $20 cheaper!"

So I will get notified of this and have to spend my time taking care of it......
 
Would you consider bringing back the $10 participant level if the usage of the classifieds section drops significantly?

I don't really care myself, and would think that anyone that would pay $10 a year can also afford $25. But I've been wrong before.....multiple times. :eek:

I really don't like it. I used to log on at least 20x's a day to read adds comments and everything. It seems like the "snakes for sale" section has grinded to a halt. Oh well, it was good while it lasted!

alright I guess that is fair enough...but I do feel that the site will take a hit because of this but that is just my opinion...

I close the majority of my ads immediately upon posting them, with instructions to contact me in that manner.

Plus there won't be as many adds from 2-3 years ago bumped to the top by some goofball asking a dumb question.

The fee to post ads will scare away the little scammers - no doubt there. However, the bolder ones are not so easily deterred by a fee as their scams recoup those costs. KS is proof that paying for classifieds don't scare them off all the time. I'm sure plenty of people have noticed how certain individuals keep coming back over and over under new identities to rip people off... Reptile Ranch being one that comes easily to mind. Now, what would be more appealing to those bolder scammers... $20 a year with no one looking over their shoulders looking to stop them in their tracks and pull their account or $20 a month with the threat of being found out and banned again and having to wait a while before reinventing their identity and maybe finding a friend or whatever to pay for the account on their behalf? Eventually it will happen that some will feel that they may have better pickings here than on KS.

What I can't figure out is that why you seem to think that having them pay to post is going to encourage them more than when it was absolutely free?? Maybe I'm slow, but it just doesn't add up in my head. :shrug01:
 
Looking at the threads to respones are next to nothing now. Very boring site. ihope you recionsider!
 
Classifieds aren't meant to be entertainment.....they are for business transactions. The discussion forums are for the fun stuff.

Not mend for entertainment? are you telling me I have been doing this wrong all this time...DANG!!! I think you might be wrong there I have seen some funny classifieds. are you sure they aren't for entertainment?.... :D
