    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi, I'm getting a snake in a few days but would like to totally clean/disinfect my tank and my other accessories in it (a few coconut huts, a branch, and a water dish). What should I use that is reptile safe? I am getting a boa, are there any other sort of accessories more appropriate for a boa?

Thanks!

For my tank and decor I use a mild dish soap to clean. Make sure you THOROUGHLY rinse, and I do mean THOROUGHLY. Then for sterilizing I use Nolvasan (Chlorhexidine).

Is that available in most big stores like Home Depot or Walmart or is it something you have to order online?

Get the chlorhexidine from Matt at mgreptiles.com. He has awesome prices and killer customer service!

Thanks a lot! The only thing is my snake will be here before the cleaning solution. Is there anything else I can use in the meantime?

You can use clorox cleanup or 1/2 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water, that is what I was using but the bleach smell killed me and I had to rinse and rinse to get the bleach smell out of the tubs before I could put the herps back in.

But it works just fine, Matt's stuff is spray and wipe no rinsing and rinsing so its faster and NO SMELL at all that I can tell which is nice form having the house smell like bleach all the time lol

Is that stuff safe for septics?
I would think so. Clorehexadine diacetate is very mild, its not corrosive, it has no surfacants, etc. For disinfecting and sterilizing it is great though. I used it all the time when I worked in a pet store. If the tank was very dirty, I would do the soap and water first (as someone else said above), then rinse a few times, then I would finish with Clorehexadine.
