In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Cody Snider - [email protected] - TERRIBLE!

I've seen them go anywhere from $100 to $250 (without shipping) in the last 6 months or so. There was nothing wrong with his price, $180 with shipping is on th lower side but I don't think it was low enough to warrant any caution. And certainly not to expect this kind of shipping practices.

I would

This is the problem one is faced with when dealing with people who know how to play the game. Paypal will not even entertain an animal claim, and in most cases if you are using a credit card as your payment source, the card companies are reluctant to stop payment to Paypal. Had it gone directly to the shipper, then that would have been a different story.

You are entitled to receive a healthy animal, with the best mode of transportation for your sake as well as the animals.. This transaction has all the earmarkings of "its your problem now" attitude. Terrible way to do business, and if you can, I would strongly suggest that you contact your credit card provider and see if you can charge back the amount, and let Paypal deal with this loser... JERRY

I've never had to charge back anyone. Does it make a difference if the money was in my paypal account? Which, I assume, would mean that it never went through a credit card. How would that work? Or is there anything that can be done at all?

If you paid through Paypal using a balance in your Paypal account for the entire amount, then you are at the mercy of Paypal's discretion and have no resources outside of Paypal should you not get any satisfaction with them.

While I have heard many times over from several different sources that Paypal does not review cases involving live animals, I have yet to find any pertinent information on Paypal's site regarding this, probably because they have it so deeply buried.

However, in the 8-9 years that I've been using Paypal, I have never found them very helpful in resolving legitimate and well documented cases I've had with them for the last several years in conjunction with using Ebay.

So, I can imagine that in a situation like this, it's going to be very difficult trying to not only prove your case but also to gain any satisfaction out of it from Paypal. Your best bet when using Paypal is to never keep a monetary balance in their system and always use a credit card when making transactions through Paypal. At least that way you have better protection with a credit card than you ever will with Paypal.

Typically, Paypal will ask you if you received your item. Your answer would be yes. That's one against you. Then they will ask if your item was as described. Well, you can try to argue that the animal first appeared dead due to poor shipping, but it did seem to survive. That would be two against you. You could lie and tell them that it didn't survive the trip, but they might respond with "we don't guarantee live animal arrivals". Then you are still screwed. I don't know of anyway that you could really argue any reasonable point with Paypal, especially since the majority of their claims seem to be used by an automated system. :shrug01:

If you do decide to expend the time and energy to file a claim, keep us updated as to how your proceedings with Paypal go. While I believe that I can safely assume that they will leave you in a much more frustrated way, I would also like to be wrong about them for once.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Ill keep you posted about paypal and my new "rescued" caiman. Now named "Lucky" (kind of cheesy, I know, but fitting), another hour or two in that box and Im sure it would have made it.

Heres a photo of him...FINALLY holding his head up...

What a cute little guy. Glad he's in caring hands!

And if you think your name for him is cheesy, you should hear the names my wife picks out for our snakes. We have Sherry and Berry, Coconut and Hazelnut, Sorbet and Sherbert, Chunkystuff and Dingleberry, just to name a few. Do you see a pattern emerging? :notallthe

Rextiles is correct

You should never keep monies in there account. Any new purchase should come from a credit card source through Paypal. How successful you would be if there would be a claim is questionable, but at least it would have been an avenue to approach.. With a balance, there is no recourse..

Hope all works out well for you and the herp. The BOI has an infinite memory, and his name will come up again sometime in the future. Hopefully we will be able to prevent someone else from the misfortune that you encountered... JERRY

I kid you not! Here's a picture of Chunkstuff and Dingleberry. You only get one shot at guessing which one is which.

Now tell me truthfully, doesn't the name Dingleberry actually fit the look of that snake? It doesn't help that he decided to go on a hunger strike for 4 months and then another time had no interest in Chunky when she was literally in the mood and lifting up her tail directly in his face. He's a lovable but completely hopeless hognose. :spinny:

Could you post some of the emails from both side. Especially those concerning the shipping and animals condition.

A little late but these are about health...

Is he feeding well and in good health?

Paul,

Sorry to hear about this, I hope everything works out ok. I know from the snake I got from you that you care about the health of the animals you keep. Best of luck with the caiman.

David

Hey Dave, thanks. He seems to be making progress little by little. Im not going to say he's in the clear until I see him eat a few times. Hows she doing by the way (the scrub)?

Paul,

Glad to hear the caiman is making some progress. Keep us all posted on how he is doing. The Scrub is doing great, could not be any more happy with her.

For all of those who were following and were curious....

A bit of hope for Cody, he did refund my money (pending clearance). As much as that doesnt excuse the shipping practices, it does give me a small glimps as to who he is. I still wouldnt recommend purchasing from him. But he at least made an attempt. I'll at least give him kudos for that.

As far as the caiman is concerned, Im not sure if there wasn't some sort of damage (neurologically) due to the extended temperature extremes. He hasnt eaten yet, and acts as if he doesnt know what to do with food when its put in his mouth. He sat with a pinkie mouse and a fish in his mouth for hours every time I've tried to feed him. He's there but certainly not with the normal conciousness you would expect. And theres been an eye infection thats flaired up from what I can only guess is from the newspaper shreds that were stuck to his eye for God knows how long. Im treating that the best I can. And if he doesnt feed soon Im going to have to resort to force feeding to give hime enough energy to fight the infection. Prayers for him would be appreciated ( for those that are the religious type).

Hey Paul

I've been dealing with Crocodilians for years and it's really not uncommon for them to not eat for periods of time. I don't recommend force feeding since you might do more harm then good. There setup is important and at times can have an affect on how they act. Whats your set up like if you don't mind me asking?

At the moment to help keep temps up a bit, he's in a 20 gal long with a heat lamp a large rock for "land" and roughly 3-4" of water. Temps run about 80-85 for the air and 75-80 for the water. Ive had a few myself over the years but he's definitely not exibiting what I would call normal behaviors. Put him in one spot and he'll stay there. No real awareness of his surroundings other than when something touches his face. I dont exactly want to even attempt force feeding but if push comes to shove its better than doing nothing. There is risk, but no more than would be if he wont eat for weeks on end.

Alot of people don't know that the water should be heated as well, and if it's cold that does play in. I'm wondering if the little guy was around any toxins when with the previous owner, maybe in the water. I'm alittle stumped! I know a guy who has 30yrs experience with crocodilians I'll ask him what he thinks and post on here for you....
