    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Excellent idea.

I've got a near new Mantis 2 cycle tiller I'll offer up. Was used once for about 5 minutes, and then has been in storage in my basement closet. Me = not much of a gardener.

Take a look at what these retail for, and make me an offer. Pickup only, zip code 26301. I could possibly meet a little ways out. Payment would be sent directly to Rich/Fauna in support of the BOI, and I'll hand over the tiller.

Rich, is there an address where the cash for these items can be sent?

I will put up my holdback dumeril boa female from last year. $60 + shipping via www.shipyourreptiles.com. I live in the north Tampa, FL area. Willing to meet within reasonable distance.

She can be a picky feeder and only eats live mice so far. I haven't put much effort forth to change her over though. She was the biggest and prettiest out of the clutch last year. I have pics of the parents if anyone would like.

Maybe, running these as individual auctions in the classifieds might draw more funds for Fauna? I know we had a pretty good time and if I recall correctly darn successful when we had the sub-forum for auctions just for Fauna.

Honestly folks, I appreciate the gesture, but I really don't want to be smack dab in the middle of these transactions. If payment is sent directly to me, then I'm kind of the middle man. Suppose something goes wrong in the transaction? What then? Do I have to decide if the money gets refunded to the purchaser? This could be a very awkward position to be in.........

I agree with web-slave. It is an excellent idea, but once again he is put at right in the middle of things. The idea of contributions is good, BUT it needs to be modified so that web-slave is no way responsible for the transaction in progress. Or maybe only contributing members can access the BOI, AND click an agreement waiver. Pretty much waiving any and all liability on web-slave...just a thought.

Ok - send the money to me if you want one of the posters, and I will donate it myself. And I will post it here so everyone will know.

Will that work?

Ohhhh, I get it. Peeps are casting aspersions on my hamsters, right? Thinking that they may pay good money (I was looking for five bucks or so) and get second rate hamsters?

Well, FINE. (Any time a woman says well fine you know you are in some deep doodoo).

Buy the dang hamsters and give ME the funds and I'll send them along.

Better yet, just paypal five dollars to Fauna and say in the paypal note:

No thanks Lucille we don't want your stupid hamsters but here is a contribution fo Fauna or
Lucille, you're just a nice person so here is five bucks for Fauna on account of we like your posts.

My posts are worth at LEAST ten dollars so five bucks is a half off sale.

Let's see some action here. Or I might threaten y'all with some polls :D.

Guess nobody wants hamsters OR posters, lol!

I will let my offer stand until somebody takes me up on it, or until Rich decides to definitely close the BOI, whichever comes first.

I forgot to add if anyone actually contributes to the above please notify me so that I can thank you from the bottom of my heart that I can keep the stupid hamsters or that (hopefully) you enjoy my writing. I of course cannot actually see any paypal note that you send to Fauna.

I said nothing about your hampsters for sale. I simply said that the contribution idea is good, BUT it needs to be modified so webslave is no way involved with the transaction if something were to happen.

Very understandable! Imagine having to deal with that BOI thread?

Who would be blamed? :no_evil01

Wayne:reddevil:

So Wayne, sugar pie, does that mean you are buying the hamsters?
