    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I've been getting a LOT of requests from people who apparently can't figure out how to post a classified ad on this site. I guess my suggestion that they just create a new thread like they would in any other forum here is just not working for them. So here is a HOW TO in regards to posting a classified ad.

First off, the presumption is that you are currently viewing the main forum page on this site. Which means starting here -> http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/

Find the CATEGORY you are interested in posting your ad in, which in this walkthough will presume the Reptile & Amphibian Classifieds (yellow text in green background)

So you have located the category you want, and let's presume you are interested in posting a classified ad in the Ball Pythons section. You will see a number of subsections in the Reptile & Amphibian Classifieds, but the one you will be interested in is the one pointed out by the red arrow in the graphic below:

create_ad_01.jpg

When you click on that link that says Ball Pythons you will be taken to the forum in which ball python ads are posted. You will see a large section of sponsors, then a section for related announcements, and then finally you scroll down the page to actually view the ads that have already been posted in that section. Since you want to post your own ad, keep on scrolling down till you get to nearly the bottom of the page where you will see the clickable button pointed out by the red arrow in this graphic:

create_ad_02.jpg

Click there and you are off an running to be creating your own ad.

So you click on that button, and you are presented with the standard text creating screen for this site. There are a number of prompts and options you need to be aware of.

The first is the prefix for your ad. Most likely, you are going to be interested in selling your animal(s), so you should click on the little down arrow to the right of that prompt and then click on the option to show that this ad is a FOR SALE ad. This prompt is shown below indicated by the red arrow:

There is an announcement about this feature that you may be interested in viewing.

Ad prefixes:

Next is the Title of your ad. You want to make it short, concise, and as descriptive as possible. This prompt is shown below, indicated by the red arrow:

create_ad_03b.jpg

Now you want to type in the text of your ad. This can be done in the large prompt box entitled Message:

create_ad_03c.jpg

There are a whole lot of optionals you can explore to enhance your text, such as embedding graphics and videos, colorizing your text, adding smilies, etc., etc. This HOW TO is not intended to go into that sort of depth, so you will have to experiment on your own a bit.

But suppose you feel you are done with your ad and want to post it right now. Well, you simply click on that Submit New Thread button at the bottom of the text message box, and you are done.

But wait a minute! How do you get those nifty thumbnail pictures to show up to the left of your ad? Well, you need to skip down below the text message area, where you will see an additional prompt area for adding attachments. YOU DO NOT SUBMIT THE THREAD YET! The button that is important to you right now is the one that says Manage Attachments.

Without recreating the wheel with more graphics about this particular topic, I suggest you check out these threads where I have already covered this area.

Posting photos as file attachments:

Furthermore, if you are interested in getting an email notice whenever someone replies to the ad you just placed, there is a prompt that you use to enable this function:

So NOW you can submit your thread, and your ad will be posted.

Once you have this down pat, you might possibly find yourself creating more ads until trying to remember them all gets to be quite a chore. Well to help you manage your ads, there is a Classifieds Control Panel that you can use specifically for this purpose.

Anyway, hope this helps some people. But honestly, I have my doubts that many people who can't figure out how to post ads will spend the time to seek out this HOW TO, but what the heck. Got to give it a shot anyway, and hope for the best.

I am trying to find what the rules were on putting your website in an ad? I thought there was such a rule but.... yep, can't find it. Anyone know? Thanks!

It's ok to include your own web site in an ad or signature block. It's not ok to post an ad that simply states "I'm selling some snakes, click here for more info." The ad here should have a description of the critter, price, etc. of the specific animal(s) for sale.

I have gotten a fair share of emails and private messages from members apparently at a loss about how to create a classified ad in the relevant forums on this site. I think the button stating "New Thread" was throwing them for a loop. So I asked my programmer to make a modification for me that replaces that button with one that says EXPLICITLY in the classified sections "Create New Ad".

Hopefully that will help.

BTW, I increased the number of attached photos (or other files) from four (4) to six (6). I had some of my own photos to attach to a thread, and was just too lazy to do them four at a time. So what the hell....
