I think the only good thing which has come of all this is that Phil has shown himself to be, beyond a shadow of a doubt, a good person. He has been patient and tactful to a level that I can honestly say I wouldn't have been in his situation, giving the other party more than ample time and every possible chance to make this right and he has been abused at every turn.
Hell, I get angry just reading about the way he's been treated, thinking about the entire thing makes my blood pressure go up and my teeth clench.
He was taken advantage of by someone who *should* be trustworthy, a person who has been in the industry a decent length of time and is, despite their behavior, knowledgeable. Phil was patient and forgiving.
The only reason that the other party agreed to make it right was a great deal of public pressure and the fact that other people jumped his case. Phil was patient and forgiving.
The promises of resolution were apparantly false, nothing has happened except excuses and games, Phil has been jerked around for far longer than most anyone else would allow themselves to be in this situation. Phil remained patient and forgiving.
Phil took a bit of initiative out of desperation and offered the other involved party an additional means of recourse, another set of options which could be used to satisfy the situation and resolve the issue. Phil again remained patient and forgiving.
If this guy doesn't make things right, after all the chances he's had and all the leeway he's been given, it cements his status as a bad guy, a crook and an all around loser as a human being.
Phil on the other hand has proven that he'd be a great person to enter into any transaction with, that he's more than willing to go several extra miles to keep people happy. He's also extremely bright, knows his animals and has a great moral sense when it comes to his husbandry practices and the way he conducts himself. No matter how he chooses to continue in this industry, either as a hobbiest or a businessman, he's got a great and very bright future ahead of him and can act, even now, as a great example of a good guy... easily one of the best guys I have ever personally come across.
Hopefully things will be made right, it's the principles which have been displayed rather than the specific dollar amounts which are most noteworthy in this situation. If nothing else comes of it Phil, it was a forty dollar cornsnake well spent towards establishing yourself as being a quality individual with a good reputation.
