In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I had some company this morning and they were fascinated with my beardies and leos. When being questioned on what they eat and such, I threw in a variety of feeders so they could hear the beardies crunch away. I love watching peoples faces as they watch and hear all the crunching. I'm always quick to point out the legs sticking out of mouths or the goo thats running down their chins. I stopped short of feeding any pinkies but it was tempting.............

Yeah, I'm morbid like that. :hehe:

I absolutely love watching them rip into a pinkie! Though it was more fun to watch my Mangrove Monitor bash the pinkie all over the cage.

Pinkies

I always try to keep pinkies on hand for company. It has been a ritual in my house that everyone gather round and watch the fun. Snap, Crackle, Pop! My favorite was feeding my first beardie ever, Mr. Beefy a pinkie and he got overly excited that day, or maybe he didn't like my nephew. Either way it's my favorite memory of him, watching how proud he was when he snapped it so hard sending the head straight at my nephew. We cheered as it's lil head rolled down the glass. Now tell me who's morbid.

I have not done it in quite awhile but Mai Tai only eats the head of the pinkies. Knowing that, I would wait for company to come over and put on a show. The guys would laugh and cheer and the girls would scream and some even cried as they watched Mai Tai only chew off the heads. Of course I'm describing the brain matter and how much protein the dragon is getting. Blah,blah,blah.................... I don't think any of them ever heard a single word of it. :hehe:

I've just never done this. I understand that there is a food chain, and I have never had negative feelings about feeding live food as that is the way these animals eat both in Nature and in captivity.
I do not find it fun, however, and would not feed to provide a spectacle to others. I do feed live insects but my reptiles eat their rodents f/t.

I don't mind feeding live pinkies when I need to, but I can't help but feel that doing such just to mortify others isn't going to do anything to help improve the reputation of our reptiles, when we at times face enough prejudice with them already.....but that's JMHO.

"Mortify" would be a bit over the top IMO. The beardies are just doing what comes naturally to them. It's no diffrent than showing someone how a snake eats. I have seen some gruesome feedings with snakes, too. It's just how it is.

Along with the "show" people are getting educated about what really happen with the reptiles. When someone walks away saying "wow, it's just like they show on animal planet". In a way it is, they are just seeing that part of nature up close and personal.

I understand what you're saying.....but "sending the girls screaming and even crying" sounds like they were pretty mortified to me!! There is a huge difference between putting on the show to educate people, and doing it to get a cheap laugh about sending people screaming and crying.

I've shown people how my critters eat before, but if I think it will have that kind of effect on them, I don't do it. The last thing we need is more people that hate our herps. You and I understand, but there are already too many that don't, or choose not to. Ya know what I mean?

Oh, I know what you mean, Cat. I was just remembering back to a slumber party my sister had. They wanted to see it but not all of them took what they saw too well. None of them walked away scared of reptiles they just don't stick around for feeding time anymore.
